Let’s be clear that he thinks serving him is the ultimate honor. This brouhaha started because Dump gave the Presidential Medal of Freedom to someone who gave him lots of money and continues to flatter him, so he thinks her “sacrifice” is better than any sacrifice or heroic valor by a service member.
[expletive deleted] gave the award to Rush Limbaugh, who was not excellent.
Of course the Medal of Freedom has more value for Donald, because he can trade it for $$$ (Adelson) or de facto media fellatio (Limbaugh). The Medal of Honor is something he has to give away for no return, not even understanding what honor is.
Trying to untangle this word salad it seems like he’s trying to say that the Medal of Honor is not something anybody wants to get therefore the Presidental Medal of Freedom is better because it’s something somebody would actually want to get?
The fatal flaw is that no fucking equivalency at all between the two honors. Both are honors, yes, and that’s where the similarity ends. It’s like saying, “while both vehicles, a Toyota isn’t as desirable as a Ferrari, therefore the Toyota is worse”.
I’m not one to worship the military like Trump supporters claim to do, but when I’ve read about the things Medal of Honor recipients did to get that honor, I’m in awe over the kind of bravery and sacrifice that was demonstrated. To get a Presidental Medal of Freedom you don’t need to do anything special at all other than get the President’s attention. I mean, if fucking Rush Limbaugh could get that award, that should be proof enough that it has less value than a Teen Choice Award.
Also, FFS, it’s not and has never been called the “Congressional Medal of Honor”.
… which was a pretty common opinion when he was young, during the Vietnam War
Trump is oblivious to the new rules, wherein Serious People haven’t said such things out loud in over 30 years
“It’s a proud day for America. And, by God, we’ve kicked the Vietnam syndrome once and for all.” — George H. W. Bush
Agreed. But I also think his comments here are typical of his extreme narcissism. He will never consciously admit that he failed or did something wrong, whether that’s conceding an election loss, or apologizing for demanding the summary execution of the (innocent) Central Park Five, or simply walking back something stupid that he said. He won’t do it, and I’m honestly not sure if he’s capable of doing it.
So when asked to clarify something dumb he’s said, he won’t ever say “I misspoke”. Instead he’ll double down and offer a mostly-incoherent explanation of how he was right. That’s exactly what’ happening here, just like happened last month when he made that stupid “Christians will never have to vote again if I’m elected” comment. See https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/30/us/politics/trump-christians-vote-ingraham.html
And he has a whole army of toadies to try to clean up what he said and explain (or more accurately gaslight) why what he said wasn’t actually what he said and here’s what he was trying to say instead. In their mind, you want someone as president who can’t articulate even the simplest of points without them turning it into something terrible that no reasonable person could recontextualize.
Biden may not be the clearest of speakers and often flubs words, but he is generally coherent and doesn’t instantly turn every single statement into something awful. When he makes a speaking mistake, it’s typically pretty obvious what he means.
This is hilarious. Just stepped in a giant pile of dog shit and is tracking it into the living room onto the antique Persian rug.
He doesn’t respect the military in the least, nor the sacrifices people have made in service to this country.
He sees them as a possible tool to unleash on to the streets of America to enforce his goonery.

According to Trump, a Medal of Honor recipient is mostly stupid for letting themselves be shot at or even injured or killed, where a stable genius like himself would fake bone spurs in order to not end up in such a situation in the first place.
I like Presidents who didn’t lose reelection.
Too true!
If only Donny would fall on his bone spurs.
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. Fantastic.
I recently had such a toadie give me a long, bizarre explanation on Medium that Trump was actually being sarcastic when during COVID he talked about putting disinfectant into people and hitting them with UV light - that press conference where Birx turned away from Trump in the hope that her soul would not be sucked out.
If anyone is interested in taking a look back at that press conference, you can see how carefully he was trying to tread through the jumble of marbles crashing around in his brain. Utterly clueless.
well, he will never achieve anything close to honor. so theres that.
Thank you for reminding me of the story of the kid who came into the house with a giant pile of dog shit in his hand and said “I almost stepped in this!”
I guess that’s better? Presumably, the POTUS has better & more important things to do than ostensibly try (& fail) to be sarcastic at a press conference about a serious subject. Even if we’re charitable and take this person’s word for it, that’s still a huge failure on Trump’s part. This goes for most if not all such explanations (“well, he’s legally allowed to keep top secret documents at his home” is still horrible judgment, even if the assertion were true. [It isn’t])
Yeah, this is just Trump in full idiot mode, saying that he would want the award that he’d be alive to get, the kind of stupid shit normal people don’t say - or feel the need to say - out loud. Shrouded in word salad so it seems like he’s saying something of substance. It just also happens to be within the context of Trump being a narcissistic sociopath who thinks anyone doing anything that’s not purely out of personal interest is some sort of sucker, and that the military is some sort of personal toy of the president.
