That cat’s not vulgar. It’s talented!

So, whose job is it to police all those lazy jackasses and make them stop saying such outrageous bullshit?

I don’t, though they’re the easiest to point to when talking to other people on the internet. I can also point to some sources like news where per hello_friends’ link where two of four that gave synonyms went for genitalia. But believe it or not, I do talk to people in other contexts, and know the common connotations from that too. Thanks for the advice anyway?

Evidently not, but it seems you’re trying to police people’s reaction to it. Why on earth do people imagine that’s better? That criticizing little denigrations is wrong, but outrage about that is sensible? If you want to live and let live, that’s not doing it.

And no, I don’t believe for a second underprivileged groups are actually worse off for people trying to take their feelings into account, whether you want to pin Trump on that – though if you did, I think I’d want better evidence than your say so – or not. Sheesh.

I didn’t realize I’d built a strawman. I thought it was your strawman I’d demolished. I did say I was fine with it didn’t I? No straw there.

Not sure what you mean by that. Colour me tired.

Keep being offended on behalf of others. We’ve all been afflicted in one way or another, some of us quite severely, although perhaps not you so much in your white, middle-class, American heterosexuality.

Hmm, something on my shoulder there, let me brush it off. Oh! It’s an insult. At least it won’t stain.

Good grief! Hyperbole much? Here I was thinking it was a civil discussion.

ā€œPolice themā€? ā€œMake themā€? No one.

ā€œEncourage themā€? Decent people everywhere.

This I can get behind fully. But when people are using words in other common ways, and keep being told they’re wrong, there’s a push-back in the Trump direction.

Thanks for that fantastic cartoon!

Edit: it deserves more views, since it describes so much of this thread:

Some, but maybe I misunderstood what was meant. Your saying ā€œpolicing languageā€ was the first mention of policing on this thread, and from what I could tell it seems to mean what other people were doing, advising on what words ought to be used. And like I said, it seemed that in much the same way, you’re advising on how people ought to react to them. It should be the same sauce.

I’m not advising people on how to react, I’m merely saying don’t overreact, and don’t jump to conclusions on others’ intent.

No surprise there. People who act as obtusely as you’ve been acting here rarely realize they’re acting that way.

Don’t forget to put those in the gif bank, they might come in useful when appropriate.
I’ve said my bit, and people here know me well enough by my history to see that I get on with most, even the lovely @milliefink.
I have a 5:30 start in the morning, so I’ll leave it at that. It’s late now.

Right back at ya.

You can be correct, but you cannot be right. Did you not get that memo, woman?

it was.

Thank you so much for joining in and being the change you wished to see.

Sounds wonderful. What about the part when we find out they won’t stop and there aren’t as many decent people as we had originally hoped? What then?

is this how that is done?
