Trump ordering military to occupy US-Mexico border through Christmas

so, does anybody doubt that Trump is salivating at the prospect of violence?

i find myself wondering when trump will get it over with and just declare war on brown people already. we know he wants to. he keeps inching closer and closer in that direction. it’s not like he’s bound by any concept of decency or acceptable behaviour, and for all intents and purposes i think he’s pretty much fighting that war already, so i don’t see why he hasn’t made it official yet.

That’s why they’re trying SO hard to keep them in Mexico. There was a similar thing back in the day with the Cubans, differentiating a “wet foot” vs a “dry foot” detention.

“At least 5,000 migrants…”
and
“That decision would affect almost 6,000 active duty military personnel…”

Are we at the point where we can just give a 1:1 armed escort through the whole process yet?

Which would be a sane plan if we set up temporary refugee/asylum facilities on our side of the border. Like we have done for the last 55 years with every prior refugee wave.

This author’s a conservative, but a relatively sane one. Still, I don’t know whether to completely trust his facts.

According to him, the first step towards admittance is a relatively cursory determination of whether there is a “credible fear” of persecution. If such a fear exists, the refugee is admitted (to the safety of the United States), to await a fuller determination of the merits of that claim, and a more permanent immigration status. In a perfect world, this determination would take place quickly, but a shortage of staff means that this temporary status can last for months, or years (instead of a couple of weeks).

but some of the facts seem somewhat at odds with this piece
