Trump riot: U.S. Attorney's Office in D.C. charges 55 people federally — unlawful entry, assault, theft, and weapons charges

That was quick. Retired Air Force officer Larry Rendall Brock, Jr., pictured there in the combat helmet, literally just gave an interview to the New Yorker about his terrorist activities.

The Punisher has been adopted by police and Army groups and, more recently, by white supremacists and followers of QAnon.

I think there’s a typo there. “and, more recently, by” should have been “i.e.”

It’s an awful law. My husband was on a jury that refused to come back with a felony murder verdict for a couple of stupid robbery perpetrators. Three thieves brought hammers to a jewelry store for a smash and grab. The store owner drew his gun–with an illegal clip–and shot at them as they walked into the store. They turned and ran out, but not before the owner wounded one of them and killed another. According to my husband, the CCTV showed that the owner barely missed shooting at one of his employees by the thinnest of margins. Also, one of the bullets was found lodged in a car parked across the street.

Perhaps the right wing terrorists planned to take advantage of the “rubes with pitchforks”–use them as a distraction, while thay got on with the murder, kidnapping, etc.

That’s kind of what he and a few of the other jurors thought.

  • Illegal clip?

  • Almost shooting one of your employees?

Yeah, we’re not going to pin a murder charge on the two stupid teenagers who brought hammers especially since the teenagers ran as soon as they saw the gun. There was no reason for the gun owner to shoot.

Angeli told NBC News he thought the day was a political success. “The fact that we had a bunch of our traitors in office hunker down, put on their gas masks and retreat into their underground bunker," he said. “I consider that a win.”

Not sure whether this admission is the most dumb arse way to help get himself a conviction for terrorism, or if it is a clever appeal to Trump’s sense of cruelty for an “atta boy!” Pardon

It’s the whole ideology of private property being the most sacred thing, and so even if your life isn’t in danger, you can protect it with lethal force… This is pretty much what happens when you put property above people.

Yes, apparently lots of cops were in the rampaging mob. I hope they’re being arrested and charged at the same rate as others.

These Black Capitol Police Officers Describe Fighting Off “Racist Ass Terrorists”

The officer even described coming face to face with police officers from across the country in the mob. He said some of them flashed the badges, telling him to let them through, and trying to explain that this was all part of a movement that was supposed to help.

“You have the nerve to be holding a blue lives matter flag, and you are out there fucking us up,” he told one group of protestors he encountered inside the Capitol. “[One guy] pulled out his badge and he said, ‘we’re doing this for you.’ Another guy had his badge. So I was like, ‘well, you gotta be kidding.’”

Another officer, a newer recruit, echoed these sentiments, saying that where he was on the steps to the rotunda on the east side of the Capitol, he was engaged in hand-to-hand battles trying to fight the attackers off. But he said they were outnumbered 10 to one, and described extraordinary scenes in which protesters holding Blue Lives Matter flags launched themselves at police officers.

Were they there? Then they fucking participated.

Also, I’ve heard it claimed that some rioters were able to get past security at the capitol by flashing their credentials. Let’s see how this turns out.

As hard as it is to change the constitution, I’m thinking it is time to reduce the Presidential power to pardon because there is a real chance that everyone who participated in this insurrection will be blanket pardoned - and without consequences the insurrectionists will be not only free to do it again, but emboldened to to do so, and do so better prepared.

Perhaps Presidents should only be allowed to be used up until 90 days before the election, and all pardons must be made public so no stealth pardons concealed from the electorate before the election. Or maybe the President should only be allowed to pardon people for offenses that took place before they were elected?

Dunno, but something needs to be done about the ability of a President to enable total lawlessness and give permanent free-passes for all Federal crimes, and for all crimes that would be state crimes if DC were a state.

Interesting that you paired this with the Tweet above it. What was your thinking in putting together that juxtaposition?
