Trump says federal government may 'take over cities,' because crime

Got that covered!!

It’s still so bonkers that this President pretends to care about “crime.”

I’ve honestly lost track of how many people in Trump’s inner circle have been convicted of felonies in just the last three years. Five? Six? More?

Based on the sudden switch from nodding to alarm when I’ve conducted experiments I’m guessing not even slightly.

“Oh, yeah, I’m in favor of the death penalty; think we don’t use it nearly often enough…”
palpable enthusiasm
“I think it’s disgusting that the only white collar crimes you can get executed for are treason and espionage.”
mood gets downright chilly

Hmmm…if only we could figure out the meaningful distinction between the kinds of criminals he wants cops to beat the hell out of, and the honest, patriotic Americans he associates with who got caught up in the legal system due to reasons but are still good people.

It’s a real puzzler.

Not going to take employment advice from a woman whose resume was a sheet of paper with the words “Dad give me job” written in crayon.

To be fair, she strikes me as one who at least has nice penmenship and a decent set of pens. I’m sure her “give me a job, dad” was probably neatly written on expensive paper.

I figured it was written when she was 6.

In swing states, though?

I looked into this in Florida at one point, and enough of the blue vote comes from northeast-extraction retirees in south Florida that mortality events disproportionate to the elderly ended up not really to the advantage of Ds over RS.

I could buy that a high death toll in Texas would put it more in play. Arizona I’m unsure as it is also a retirement spot, but maybe retirees there trend more Fox News than in FL, and its current swiniginess is driven by youth? I’d have to see real numbers.

Since childhood I have dreamt that I would die at the hands of the police or soldiers during a protest. These dreams may turn out to be prophetic.

So apparently his justification for taking over cities is his belief that the majority of people murdered by police are white.

Also blathering about “freedom of speech” while sending troops to violently suppress it.

I would like to point out that hair dressers and telephone handset sanitizers are now BOTH essential workers.

Meh. A flailing cornered animal yes, a flailing cornered ruined politician, not so much. He would need the support of a lot of other people in government, to do something that is not possible from a legal standpoint. Support he doesn’t currently enjoy. Again, a couple years ago a threat like this would have more weight. Now he’s making these tough-guy noises for his own benefit, to soothe the agony he feels but is still in denial about.

Or the rest of it, at least not in practice.

Right now federal agents are injuring protesters in Portland, with no major pushback at the federal level. https://www.kgw.com/article/news/local/protests/protester-shot-in-the-head-at-portland-demonstration-video-shows/283-6896c33a-37c0-4a96-aaa8-446b408b6475 I fail to see any situation where the Republicans would meaningfully push back. I don’t see the Democrats meaningfully stopping him. If he thinks there is political advantage to be gained from killing a few people in cities, he will and nothing in our history says that federal agents will disobey such an order. I think the Kent State shootings are instructive here. We look back on them with horror, but the man who ordered the guard in to kill students was so popular afterwards that (following a close Senate loss) he managed to be reelected twice as Governor, despite the state constitution having term limits. Killing city residents plays well with suburban voters in times of unrest.
