Trump threatening to sue. Until it’s filed, it’s hot air.
With any other two subjects, this film sequence would come off as satire. With Biff and Cohn, however, it’s close to documentary footage.
I don’t care how critical this movie is of Trump, it will get none of my money or attention, aside from this comment. I have less than zero interest.
For anyone who isn’t aware of how toxic and evil Cohn was, or about the myriad lessons that TFG took from him, this actual documentary is worth a watch:
I doubt I’d have the stomach to watch this movie. No matter how hard they work to make this film come off as critical of Trump there will be a subset of the audience who sees him as the dashing hero, especially when he’s played by someone as handsome and charismatic as Sebastian Stan.
At the end of the day, the impact of this film could turn out to be nothing but a bunch of free publicity for a conman who somehow built a lifelong career out of free publicity.
He almost certainly will sue. But he has to pick a circuit where it won’t be immediately dismissed.
A defamation lawsuit is possible and would likely get pretty far. But as long as there was a good faith effort to be accurate, there is not much Trump can do about it.
What is more interesting is that Dan Snyder “donated” money to the film project. Then didn’t like the results. If he gave the money with no strings attached, then about all he can do is demand the money back (no considerations). If there were some strings attached, like an agreement over approving the film. Then the film is toast.
Apparently, as stated in the post, Snyder was bought out.
Ooops. I skipped over that part. Not surprised that’s how it worked out. Cleanest way to deal with the legal issue.
Here I was thinking someone had finally gotten ahold of those infamous behind-the-scenes tapes. People have been talking about those for eight years; it’s only a matter of time, surely?
IMO, the first actor’s voice sounded MUCH more like real Trump’s voice than the Trump actor - I found it instantly annoying… but I suspect that’s a learned behavior.
Like a Trump tweet?
Today I learned that Roy Cohn was a brilliant businessman, just like Donald Trump. /s
Cohn was the grandnephew of Joshua Lionel Cowen, founder of the Lionel model train company. By 1959, Cowen and his son Lawrence had become involved in a family dispute over control of the company. In October 1959, Cohn and a group of investors stepped in and gained control of the company, having bought 200,000 of the firm’s 700,000 shares, which were purchased by his syndicate from the Cowens and on the open market over a three-month period prior to the takeover.[57] Under Cohn’s three-and-a-half-year leadership, Lionel was plagued by declining sales, quality-control problems and huge financial losses. In 1963, Cohn was forced to resign from the company after losing a proxy fight.[58]
Of course he’s going to sue. Oh wait, correct that, he’s only threatening to sue, as usual. Nothing he’s ever done in his life has had any benefit to society, only to himself.
Partial financier, Trump ally, and billionaire Dan Snyder was so put off by Trump’s depiction in the film…
How empty would your level of self awareness have to be if you thought a movie about D!ck l’Orange would be flattering? Did Snyder think, “Oh, it has that guy from Succession who was a really heroic character! Here’s a bunch of money!”
Occam’s Razor says “Yes”.
you need to get a thicker skin
dont tell him that!
on the other hand…when would he ever listen to advice that would actually be beneficial for him?
I just listened to the Dollop episodes about him, and somehow I find him even more disgusting than I did before. Scumbag start to finish. I hope this movie conveys how revolting he really is, which might be overwhelming even for the cultists when condensed into a few hours.
