MSNBC is reporting a move is afoot in DC to use the Insurrection Act to deploy active duty military against the protesters. If this happens, I respectfully predict we are fucked.

Active troops, such as the 101st as you mentioned, are title 10 forces and cannot be used for law enforcement. They can be used to transport people, move supplies, erect roadblock and run checkpoints (list not all inclusive) but cannot arrest anybody or use force against civilians. They could ‘accidentally’ kettle protestors with said roadblocks and point out people for arrest.
National guard troops under the orders of the governor are title 32 forces and can be used for law enforcement. They can also do all the things active troops can do as outlined above.
Of course this goes out the window if the insurrection act is invoked, and I know just the guy who would invoke it ( hint: he’s an orange dickhead).
