I’d say compulsive lying is indeed a symptom of illness, along with the sexual assaults and such.

Seriously, I have a bad feeling about this. The general strike was annouced for next week and the orange bastard announced “additional security”, whatever that means, for next week. I fear shit is going down.
Stay safe, american friends.

Much like “hold my beer and watch this”, nothing good can come from that statement.

I think the muslim ban is just the tip of the spear - the media has been selling anti-muslim hate for at least two decades now. 56% of all americans think islam is incompatible with american values and the includes 43% of democrats. (thanks Bill Maher!) So that’s just the low-hanging fruit.

But with Bananon literally telling Trump that there are too many asians and indians in silicon valley and a draft executive order to deport legal immigrants who use any form of social services it seems clear that Trumpism is really about keep out as many brown people as possible.

So I think next week will be more about rounding up immigrants currently in the country. That shit is already going on big time right now and is not getting the level coverage it deserves.

Nah. Even if all that fails (and I’m not an expert on the US system, as you might have guessed), you still have one thing going for you: states. As in states rights versus federal overreach. Terms that have been quite succesfully poisoned by the right, but can also work to your advantage. I mean, it would take quite a bit to force California or Texas to do something they don’t want to do. I think many US-americans don’t realize that this system with semi-independent states is rather unique in the world. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of another first world country where e.g. pot is legal in some states, not in others, same for gay marriage etc pp. Germany kinda, but not really. Maybe Italy, but who knows what goes on there.

All I’m saying is that it would take a whole lot more than some moronic executive orders to turn the US into a full-blown dictatorship, and frankly I find the notion a bit offensive to people who right now have to live under such.

No spoilers!

I already know this story. It sucked.

Bit late to be trying to stop dangerous people getting into your country; they’re already there and in the White House. Trying to make it a White Country…

Executive powers of the POTUS may be inflated, but they don’t yet include triggering volcano eruptions.

Italy isn’t federal. Probably the closest would be Switzerland, where the cantons have a lot of independence.

So, the US will Balkanize?

I’m guessing four countries if it happens. West Coast, New England + Mid-Atlantic, Upper Midwest, and everyone else. I just really don’t think it will happen, but if it does, that’s how it will split.

The trouble is this: laws are just words on paper, they exist by enforcement of both martial strength and belief.
If those two things are no longer enforcing a law, it goes away. And that includes states’ rights.

That includes everything. All of us are supported by the thinnest bubble of civility, of mutual agreement.
