Trump Tower has two "privately owned public spaces" that anyone is entitled to visit

There’s a convenient place nearby where they can live if they don’t want to live in the White House proper. It’s much easier for the Secret Service to secure than Trump Tower would be.

Let me know when it’s more than suggesting.

At any rate, the articles I’ve read are about the security of the wife and kid staying there. If it is just that, I don’t care. And even if Trump is in the White House the whole time, they have to protect the first family.

It may not be ideal, but I am done playing petty party politics games where every little thing is thrown up as how horrible they are. It got tiring after a month of Obama in office. I reduced browsing frequency of some forums because I was tired of Obama not being able to fart with out getting blamed for something.

I’ll chime in the negative when he starts pushing actual bad laws. We won’t have long to wait and then this here will seem quaint.

We are discussing the President, not his family.

And you’re seeking new games, like “it’s easier to secure the Trump tower than the White House”.

If you’re going to leap immediately to excuses, choose ones that at least make sense and are grounded in reality.

You’re not “above it” when continuing to participate in the same back and forth.

There is no reason to not take him at his word, and there is no need to have taken Obama at what crazies think. If you think the two are the same you are certainly not as apartisan as you believe.

Here is another good article about the public space in Trump Tower, written in June of this year. This journalist took the director of Bryant Park’s horticulture with him to pass judgement on the upkeep of the park.

(replying to mister44) Even you, someone who does not believe the false equivalence,

He really does.

I have been out on the pictured area. shrug

I think it is because all of the outlandish accusations against Clinton normalized the idea that our leaders are utterly venal, hypocrites straight out of a soap opera. So when Trump came along, not only did he seem like everything they have come to expect but he was on their side.

That really should be “Would YOU want to live with Trump”.
The place is kinda irrelevant. .

So many metaphors here.

What drives me nuts is the amount of taxpayer money going into this stuff.

I can appreciate the hard-nosed fiscal conservative bent, when it’s divested of the social conservative aspect. Where are those people now?

If Trump wants to deviate from Presidential security protocol, let him pay for it himself–he certainly can afford it. Anyone who doesn’t complain about this isn’t a real (fiscal) conservative.

Fiscal conservative just seems like a code for “I don’t like government programs that help minorities”. Given how much they tend to support war efforts especially.

Not going to disagree.

Really wish we had more than just lip service to fiscal conservatism in any party. The idea by itself is a nice addition to the idea of checks and balances… But nobody seems to be that interested in doing much more than being cheap when it comes to stuff they don’t like, and being extravagant for their special interests.

Fiscal conservatives never seem to mind military spending.

How are the washrooms lately? I visited in the 90s, and they were fairly well attended, both by those using the facilities and by cleaning staff. I seem to recall that the cleaning staff was perhaps of Spanish descent, but of course, I can’t be certain, it was so long ago. No matter. Do they still pipe Muzak into the restrooms? I thought that was a classy touch. I’m mainly just worried that a Presidential order may revoke those free public washrooms once he is in office. If that happens, then for sure more people will need to pee behind that dead tree.

Ninety Nine Percent Invisible had a really good podcast about Privately Owned Public Spaces.

Probably about the same as the middle of the night meetings I do between Japan and Europe. Some call it witchcraft but I call it technology.

I call it insecure.

My witchcraft is beyond secure! Trump, as we would understand from most Trumpohopbes here, having the power of Ultimate Evil Wizard, must therefore have even better witchcraft, possibly YUUUUGE magic at his disposal.

The FBI director would like to have a talk with you; he wants you to forge this mystical golden key for him…

You don’t understand what an emergency meeting with the Joint Chiefs of Staff means, I take it.

Conference calls are for fundraising purposes, not decisions about military action or other security measures.
