OK, who gave Rob the day off?
Good luck with that. The Democrats have never been able to play these games as well as the Republicans.
Itās not like this will hold up in court. Just like with the first half dozen iterations of the āMuslim ban,ā heās already screwed himself in court by declaring his intentions.
Itās pretty clearly unconstitutional to bypass Congress to get funding for a pet project. The argument that itās an emergency is completely derailed by the fact that heās been talking about it for almost 3 years, that it has been a big piece of his negotiation with Congress on the funding bill, and, ya know, every statistic on the topic that it is possible to gather.
Weāre far past a Twitter rant if he declares a state of national emergency to start hijacking funds to build a wall of some sort. We need to ratchet up that alert a few notches to the cover of Rushās seminal album āMoving Pictures.ā We passed Black Watch Plaid during the government shutdown.
Well, at least thatās the plan until Ann Coulter hears about it.
Iām pretty sure that the SCOTUS ruling telling him, āSure, whateverā will have a Bush v Gore āNot a precedent usable by Democratsā clause.
The emergency declaration will provoke a resolution of disapproval from Democrats in the House which McConnell will be obligated to bring to the floor in the Senate. Thatās going to put a lot of Republicans on the record one way or the other, with neither position giving them much cover.
Itās a power grab for sure, probably unconstitutional, and I hate it, but Iāll be darned if Iām not going to enjoy some popcorn while Mitch McConnell squirms.
Iām pretty sure that the SCOTUS will actually tell him āHa ha ha NO.ā Roberts actually cares about the image of the Court and his own place in history.
National Emergency will be the new pen-and-phone. What Iām worried about is what the next escalation in this executive-power arms race will be.
No. He doesnāt care at all about ratings. The only thing he cares about is āprovingā that he is the most powerful and wonderful thing in the room, and he is capable of anything to āproveā that, no matter how illegal, immoral, or insane. Drumpf is exactly the kind of psychotic egomaniac who would be willing to watch this country burn than to give up what he wants.
So if the Republicans let this go through, what do they think will happen when the next Democrat President gets into office? Refrain from using this newfound national emergency power? I think not.
In that case the next Democrat Presidentās first executive order of their term will declare that due to some emergency (itās January and itās cold in Washington DC?) effective immediately the size of the Supreme Court is increased to whatever size will give the Democrat President a majority and the following people are appointed to the Court. Then the newly inflated Court would rule on whether or not the Presidentās emergency declaration is constitutional. Guess how the newly appointed justices would vote?
Executive order #2 of their term will be related to gun violence, climate change, or health care, whichever is most likely to antagonize Republicans in general and Mitch McConnell in particular (assuming heās still around.)
I wonder if this shit will result in limiting executive powers. Probably not.
Clearly you libtards donāt understand the nature of the peril. There are hundreds of poor women and children on their way right now! And they speak Spanish!
Looks like itās through the senate now. If he changes his mind again, heāll have to actually veto it.
Itās unlikely the house changes to something different from whatās already passed like they did last time.
Iām not sure he knows how to veto something instead of getting others to save him from having to do that.
Try it, go ahead. Also gfy Senor Trump. Respectfully of course.
No. He doesnāt care at all about ratings.
he sure talks a lot about them, then.
If only Justice Scalia were still around. He wouldnāt stand for this blatant disregard for the constitution.
(Iām serious about thisā¦I really donāt think Scalia would go for it.)
