He’s about my age. Dating a freshman while a senior was unusual and had a creepy vibe back then, and that’d typically be a 17-18 year old dating a 14-15 year old. Someone in twelfth grade (or a recent graduate) dating and impregnating an eighth or ninth grader was not something that I recall in that long ago era, would have been a big deal. His yadda yadda yadda of his child bride’s suicide is a great look.

It’s not almost tolerated as normal, it is normal and not illegal. Peers are allowed to date and it isn’t wrong or creepy. Actual laws vary on how big the difference can be but two years is very common.
The jump between high school and college is still weird for a couple who are a year or two apart and it frequently ends relationships, but it’s not inappropriate to date someone only a year younger, I’ve never met someone who thinks it is.
Seniors who date freshman on the other hand are very creepy and that is statutory rape in most places, for good reason.

Dude is a rapist, I don’t get why people want to mince words. Seriously, this is called statutory rape. Also, I don’t get why conservatives think it’s okay to rape women and take advantage of them as soon as they start ovulating. This is stuff you’d expect say in the medieval period of Europe, not the 20th and 21st centuries. But geez, these folks really do want to go back to those ye olden days don’t they?

I don’t doubt this guy is a piece of shit, since probably no other kinds of people are left in the Republican Party at this point.
Just saying though, that an 18 year old dating a 14 year old wouldn’t raise many eyebrows in a lot of places in the world.
I personally do find it a quite creepy, but from my own memory, the mental maturity of these two age groups is often not very far apart.
In any case this is something very different from child sexual abuse or other kinds of violent rape in my opinion.

I’m going to disagree here. It is exactly child sexual abuse. An 18 year old (HS senior or college freshman) having sex with a 14 year old (HS freshman or 8th grader) is absolutely child sexual abuse. And should have been prosecuted as such. It is possible the girl would still be alive had it been.
