Going as well as his presidency.
Trump will probably put some sort of totally implausible spin on it, such as he dismissed them because they were incompetent or he lost confidence in them. I expect an imminent release to that effect from the “office of the former president”. What a first-rate twerp and buffoon!
Lovely thought that, but I think it’s unlikely to happen, at least in my lifetime. And besides, it would just encourage even more absurd stretches of logic like, “Cheese graters don’t kill people, people kill people.”
Ok, but that’s a somewhat hollow point.
Which implies that Trump is a spectacularly bad client. So bad that after a couple of meetings with him, his prospective lawyers want NOTHING to do with him.
Bring on the criminal charges.
Trump wants them to argue the election was stolen. They want to argue you cant impeach him once he’s out of office. Both are losing arguments. All a president would need do is resign before the final vote making it moot, and there would never be any impeachments.
There are potential legal ramifications for lying as an attorney in a court of law. They could lose their license to practice at the very least.
I figger those guys didn’t flee for reasons of dough, they fled because their client was insisting that they continue his election lie under penalty of jail time without the possibility of a presidential pardon.
They (the repubs) don’t give a shit about us, the American people, but tons of them hate trump. (remember lindsey “if we nominate him it will destroy us and we will deserve it” grahm? and Ted “my dad did not kill kennedy” Cruz? They hate him all right. But they are terrified of him and his ability to turn the base against them. No way in hell they would publicly do anything besides lick trumps balls, lovingly and with slow caresses of their tongues, but if the vote was secret…
Half (or more) of the republicans only cow-tow to him because they are scared shitless about trumps influence on the base, and his ability to turn that base against them. But if they could stick a knife in his political back while publicly sucking up and lying profusely that it wasn’t them that turned against him… I’d bet a huge chunk of them would jump at the chance as long as they could do it without the base knowing.
Apparently, yes.
Can’t find legal representation but his senate protection racket is ready to acquit.
No, money down!
I’m obliged. Still. my money would be on AOC in a duel with, say, any of them.
She was a bartender after all. No doubt she could toss quite a few of them around if she needed to.
there are only two reasons, not mutually exclusive, for an attorney to represent donald trump in this venue: the love of money or a belief that the insurrection was justified. it seems that no one who had been hired to this point was firmly enough in the latter category to forgo payment and defend trump’s incitement as a positive good. it’s almost amazing that none of the attorneys would stay on in a case when only 5 of a requisite 17 out of 50 republican members of the jury have publicly committed to being open to voting “guilty” and the other 45 have committed to voting “not guilty” no matter what. at this point if reliable video of trump shooting a capitol policeman to death before returning to white house were to come up, he still wouldn’t lose in the impeachment trial. it is utterly remarkable that no attorney would stay on given such surety of victory for their side.
yes, during the 1840s and 1850s in the run-up to the u.s. civil war.
behind a paywall but details here:
Yeah, any Dum-Dum knows that
Yes, the impeachment vote can be via secret ballot.
I emailed Schumer and my senators and urged them to go that route.
Point them to the Whiskey Rebellion. Washington was not down with that shit at all.
In an effort to live up to my BB handle - don’t let this get you down!
There were worse outcomes to the recent election - like another 4 years of the Trump family.
Yes - these arseholes will continue to permeate news and events - but like the black mould that they are, eventually progressive legislation will act as an anti fungal spray and hopefully undo much of their taint.
It doesn’t solve why the country is broken, but it’s a start.
Every time I think of Trump, I think of that seen where Johnny Ola is lamenting the loss of the old guard to Michel Corleone: “Hyman Roth always makes money for his partners. One by one, our old friends are gone. Death, natural or not, prison, deported. Hyman Roth is the only one left, because he always made money for his partners.”
Because Trump is exactly the opposite of that.
