Of course it is.

GIGO.

Offline and behind closed doors I’d wager Musk sees CP as “free speech.”

shocked

Wow! Who would have thought firing all your employees and content moderators wold result in this? Nobody could have seen THAT coming.

Twitter is currently telling me that, “Your current API plan does not include access to this endpoint, please see https://developer.twitter.com/en/docs/twitter-api for more information”

And, just for something to do, I’m going to jump to the conclusion that he’s thrown a strop and turned it off

It’s currently offline for everyone, I think.

GOOD.

Anyway, it’s working now.

I’ve worked developing web sites for a long time, and I would guess that about 80% of technical work is deeply intertwined with human processes. For example, a team needs something automated in a way that works for their business process, so you develop it to those specifications. Sometyimes leadership wants some particular result and the solution involves both custom software and hiring or reorganization, accomplished in tandem, to achieve. If the staffing and/or business processes change, it is very common that the custom software you developed to support those processes need to be updated as well.

So none of this is surprising. I imagine current Twitter staff are trying to use tools built for a different organization with different staffing, and there are no developers available to work on these internal tools because most of the devs have been axed as well, and those that are left are either running around putting out user visible fires or working on some stupid pet project to make Musk’s tweets show up above anyone else’s.

The building does not look fine from the outside.

My guess is identity theft is also thriving. Scammers love a vacuum.

Well, of course. The only question is if Musk cares. (And if he cares, whether he’s pleased this particular thing has increased on Twitter…)

Just after announcements of massive layoffs in content moderation, particularly those groups dealing with child abuse, I saw people congratulating Elno for cracking down on the problem. Apparently Elno had been turned into a Qanon hero by his support for the far right, so the reality stopped mattering. Like with Trump, he was “one of them,” so of course he was doing “the right thing,” facts be damned.

@beschizza Can I ask BB to make the editorial choice to say Child Sex Abuse Material (CSAM) instead of “child porn”? “Porn” is as consensual as anything commercial can be, while these children are anything but consenting.

I’m sure you’re right. This is Libertarian “free speech absolutism” in action. It’s worth following up by considering what the reality of their ideal unregulated market would be.

I have been assured, by members of the Network Of Neighbourhood Child Exploitation, that it is purely a co-incidence that tech-bros and libertarians call for a lowering of the age of consent.

Porn does not now and never has implied consent @jimr1603. Where did you dig up that whackadoddle theory?

So where was Musk aligned on Section 230 previously? Is Twitter just a giant thought experiment to brute force that law into being?

And hoocodanode that this would result in advertisers leaving in droves because they don’t want their brands associated with that content? Pretty much everybody. Big brand marketing director: “Let’s see, child porn, Nazis and Putin… Hard pass.”

OK. Will avoid “porn” as it has taken on connotations of consent.

That’s an excellent point! Let’s help make progress towards de-shaming sex work. Which CSAM most certainly isn’t.
