That was the point!
(Can we please have Stephen Fry back this time?)

Given that Blackadder is typically a fairly enthusiastic toady for the ruling elite (he hates them only because he wants to be them) and has contempt for the poor (he hates them because he doesn’t want to be like them) I don’t harbour any doubt that the series will be on the right side. They’re not John Cleese.
Blackadder was a junior officer - one of those people they give pistols to, pistols being useless for shooting the enemy at range but perfect for shooting your own soldiers with close up if they weren’t sufficiently enthusiastic. But one of those people they sent over the top with a whistle and a gun that wasn’t useful for killing the enemy so they died in great numbers.
As such he would be a perfect junior professor enthusiastically encouraging market reforms but who is ultimately disposable himself. Because let’s not forget he’s never particularly competent but is instead just there because of heredity.
Rather than Alan Partridge I think he’s more of a David Brent.
Oh well. That puts a bullet in the back of the head of my fantasy fifth season, Blackadder Takes the Fifth, where Edmund Blackadder is a middle ranking diplomat and Soviet mole (purely for the money, of course) at the British embassy in Washington during the height of McCarthyism. With, perhaps, Tony Robinson playing his KGB handler Baldrikov, coz I thought it might be interesting for that character to go back to being smart.
Not sure where the threat is in the proposed show; wasn’t half the fun of the other shows the possibility that Bladders would get executed or otherwise killed? Now what; he might get deplatformed?
The thing that will die in this season is the show itself. So meta
Blackadder was amazing, too much time has passed though and this will almost certainly be terrible.
Good plot/setting!
If they were going to bring in a “Flash” character as a tribute to Rik, it would be a nice touch if Ade Edmondson did it.
Not bad. I was thinking a junior doctor at the inception of the NHS. Turns out we’re all better at this than the scriptwriters, huh?
Nah, we’re not better than the writers.
Producers / programme planners, on the other hand…
