I am not voting this week (London is one of the areas not having elections) but remember one vote can make a difference. And voters remember your IDs.
They’ll also have the Good Law Project on their backs to bring a legal challenge against this arse backwards legislation. Funny how it disenfranchises those age groups who don’t traditionally vote Tory. Funny that…
It’s still early in the Local election count - but this is looking as bad a result for the Tories as could be hoped.
My city, Plymouth, is a microcosm of the National party - Conservative majority last election, 4 leaders in 2 years, bitter in-fighting between Johnsonites and others, resignations, sackings and defections. The Tories lost badly.
Fucked around and found out, didn’t they?
For reference, here’s my post from the last time these particular set of local elections happened in England:
The Conservatives have just lost 1000 councillors across England.
Possibly the biggest shock of the day was the Green Party taking control of rural Mid Suffolk.
Oh dear.
I’d also like some numbers on just how many people were turned away because of the new backwards arse law.
The Green party more than doubling their number of seats is very impressive for them.
The losses for the Tories seem to be mainly concentrated in the south of England, which suggests that electoral geography is shifting in a strange way- perhaps it’s the strange “Tory but Remain” voters who are abandoning them at the moment.
Thank fuck.
Can I use that Nelson gif again?
fixed!
As an Australian, this raises the interesting prospect: what if the UK becomes a republic before Australia?
(kidding, probably, not really sure anymore)
