Because we can’t afford it!
Red tories busy making sure that while there might be elections, there absolutely won’t be any change in the UK.
Labour meaning Conservative Jr?
The Church of the Militant Elvis Party is starting to look more attractive than anything else on the political menu every time I read about the topicalities of British politics.
It’s depressing, if not unexpected
I haven’t read the judgment, and UK constitutional law is makey uppy bullshit at the best of times, but as with the row over the NI protocol: when will they realise the constitutions of Scotland and NI were drastically changed by being forced out of the EU against their wills?
When it is politically convenient for them to do so. Which is probably never.
What can they do if Scotland holds it anyway?
I’d certainly be more inclined to after the decision.
British history would seem to indicate that England forcing other parts of the UK to do things they don’t want to do is a fundamental feature of the constitutional arrangements.
Ignore it. Unless of course the result is to stay in which case they’d say both that it wasn’t a valid referendum and that it shows there is insufficient support for independence.
