Ultra-rich people in NYC demand apartments with (gasp) driveways

Apparently other interesting stuff was dug up…

Personally I enjoyed this thread for the all too predictable venom towards the wealthy.

Why not just drive it into a ground floor garage? I see no benefit to this. It’s just spending money for the sake of it.

There is a benefit to this style of design which doesnt seem to have been covered. Buildings with a open center as a result of a porte-cochère end up also potentially having more natural light for units on the inside edges.

That and ground level garages are often easier to break into.

Well my friend, many of the worlds wealthy deserve some venom.
Or lots of it.

I dont know that. I’ve not met them personally and even if I did I try and always find the best in people.

I still don’t understand how you didn’t dominate the “unpopular opinions” thread. Was it just too on the nose?

Maybe people just didnt want to validate my opinions?

Yes. In the linked article it was a Russian oligarch, like the one you mentioned.

Good points. In addition, having an elevator means you can house multiple cars with only one small entry point…whether vertically or on one level but a different one than the street.

Tell that to the Pharaohs.

I hear the new thing is rooftop trebuchet with giant catcher mitts around the city.

OK, but if you are not crushing those “beneath you” and putting money ahead of people, or think that having money makes you more important than others, then you are not in the same category as the Waltons/Bushes/Kochs/Etc.

It’s not the number of dollars one has, it’s whether one is an asshole enabled and exacerbated by dollars. Basically there is a reason Warren Buffet isn’t on the Walton/Bush/Koch list.

Why pick me to ask that question? Given what I was replying to, isn’t it sort of obvious?

In NYC we have a rooftop Sopwith Camel and runway:

That is possible and affordable in Detroit.

With a name like Tunt it has to be a nice place… really? C. Tunt?
