When I was in the Canadian military, the Army provided underwear for both men and female troops. Nobody wore the crap. I remember my sergeant complaining about the authorized bras. She said everyone wore what was comfortable. Complete waste of money.

I know, right? The surprise here is that it took so damn long.
I recall a discussion that I had once where I said that it was a REALLY bad ides to make the DOD ID cards include wireless functionality. “But the data is encrypted so it’s okay.” “If you want a landmine or booby trap that only goes off when a US soldier is near, you don’t need to decrypt his SSN. The mere fact that the card responds is enough.”
ISTM that flame resistant and non-melting should be a ironclad requirement. I have the scars to prove that melting nylon is very sticky.
