For the same reason you should care if the products and services you pay for were produced via slave labor or environmentally unsustainable practices. Even if those factors don’t directly impact YOUR experience, you may not feel comfortable supporting them.
Actually the threshold is not all that low. And IF it wasn’t true he is even stupider to pay to “conclude the matter quickly and efficiently”.
I’m not sure what you mean by “important information” but the article says "According to the complaint, the woman alleged “she was subjected to ongoing and unwelcome sexual harassment by (Palmer) including, but not limited to, verbal comments and physical conduct involving her breasts, buttocks, and genitalia.”
She said she asked her supervisor and Palmer that the behavior stop, but it continued. She also said she believes she was fired for reporting the conduct."
Really, you’re going to go with “I can’t judge evil unless I am 100 percent pure”? None of us are that, but it is still possible to point out that killing an animal for no reason other than to see it die, and to gloat over its death, is pretty fucking heinous.
He’s killing things for recreational purposes. What more would he have to do to be considered to be “causing harm”? Even if he weren’t hunting endangered species illegally, he’d be a vile specimen - no better than a sociopathic kid torturing and killing a neighbor’s dog (That’s sustainable, right? The neighbor can always pick up a new dog at the pound! No harm, no foul!).
Here is a picture of the filthy piece of shit lording over a dead rhinoceros. An animal that eats plants, has an essentially useless horn, does not see particularly well, and has a small brain. Some do not even have front teeth. “Hunting” a rhinoceros is tantamount to hunting a rock. There cannot possibly be any sport involved. Anyone who “hunts” a rhinoceros is not just a filthy piece of shit but is king of the shit pile.
I propose a toast to said cock shriveling, turning black, then falling into a pile of dust.
Consider two scenarios.
In one, the locals hunt, kill, and eat the animal. They kill for food.
In the other one, a foreign hunter comes in, pays the locals, kills the animal. The locals get the meat, eat the animal. He kills for pleasure. The locals get the food like in the scenario one, plus the money from the visitor. Net gain, same cost. Is it any worse than scenario one?
How good are the teeth after he gets his time with them. That’s what truly matters for a dentist.
Sometimes you don’t want to sue even if you’d win, and just want the matter to go away and stop sucking resources.
That assumes I am not tired of the world. I tried to fit in, to be part of it. I kept failing. Shrugging and cutting my losses turns out to be the most economic strategy - same zero social benefits for me as before, lowest cost.
I assume nothing of you. Maybe you don’t care if your sneakers were made by enslaved children or if three acres of rainforest was slashed and burned to make your latte. But plenty of other people have decided they don’t want to give their business and their money to a man who spends it on this kind of thing, and I say more power to them.
He went to Africa. He handed over a wad of dosh. He got to kill a Lion. If you, for one second believe that any part of this was on the up & up I will make a very safe bet that you have never been to Africa, let alone been involved in any sort of business with the locals.
Not very convincing though. Apparently he paid $50,000 whereas a license for killing a lion seems to be auctioned for $250k+.
Slow, agonizing harm.
Is “it” any worse? I’m not sure what the “it” is, but in the second of your two completely irrelevant* hypothetical scenarios I’'d say that in the second one the hunter is definitely worse, since he’s engaging in cruelty for recreational purposes. Especially if the hunter, like this asshat, shot it nonfatally with an arrow, let it suffer for 40 hours, and then let one of the locals finish it off.
*The lion’s body was found skinned and headless in the wilderness, nobody was eating that shit, so even if you think eating an animal justifies its torture and death (I personally don’t), your hypothetical doesn’t apply here. This was pure cruelty. Sociopathic neighbor kid killing puppies stuff.
There isn’t an absolute separation, some flavors of misconduct do suggest deep unsuitability for certain jobs; but poaching and dentistry are not an obvious example of such a combination.
He did not do this to protect anyone, or to feed anyone, or to rein in an out of control animal population. It sounds like he just enjoys employing an unfair advantage to kill things. A real macho, tough guy.
Can’t we ship these people off to a desert island somewhere and let them practice on each other?
She worked for him. I don’t know about you, but if I worked for the best dentist in the world and he grabbed my ass, his dental skills would not be pertinent.
That is true. However I spoke from the position of the patient, not the coworker.
This was the last straw, if I had needed one. He’s a Big Man when he’s killing animals for his meaningless trophy hunt, but let him find out that people don’t like him for it? Boo hoo, it’s everybody else’s fault. What a quivering spineless pile of poo.
He didn’t kill it. A hunter who found the suffering lion delivered the mercy.
For clarification, an edit I should have written earlier:
I’m trying to say, perhaps poorly, that this is a confluence of wealthy westerners taking complete advantage of a weak central government, corruption, and endemic poverty in Zimbabwe to kill the “lovely troph[ies]” with little to no repercussion upon the hunter. You’ll also note that I said I don’t agree with killing for sport as I feel it’s ghoulish at best.
The board may refuse or by order suspend or revoke, limit or modify by imposing conditions it deems necessary, the license of a dentist … upon any of the following grounds:
…an offense involving moral turpitude
…conduct unbecoming a person licensed to practice dentistry
…gross immorality
There’s one glaring fact you’re wilfully ignoring: he killed a member of an endangered species. Fuck this guy, I hope he gets to do hard time in a Zimbabwe jail.
