With Pluto they established set criteria for the IAU to use for planets and dwarf planets moving forward. This call about potatoes just seems to be because they don’t want that to be the leading vegetable consumed. No criteria for the future, just the precedent or continuation of a precedent that committees can define things individually, whether they fit established criteria or not.
