Utah official pulls down teen's skirt in restaurant, arrested for sexual battery

Ah Utah, the state so square it’s got 6 corners

If she’d really been as exposed as the official claims, something I don’t believe for a moment, then maybe she wouldn’t have been legally dressed. (I don’t know what Utah’s indecent exposure laws are.)
But the assault would have still been a completely inappropriate response.

Why oh why do people find it so hard to just mind their own damn business? Not only did she have no right to speak to the young woman that way, you sure as fuck DON’T put your hands on people. I’m unusually reactive to being touched in an unwelcome way. If I were the young lady, that Karen would have a permanent hand-shaped red welt on her cheek.

Her “vagina” was exposed? That’s pretty extreme! Karen to the rescue.

Or, like many people, Extreme Karen doesn’t actually know how anatomy works. Much like GOOP, for example: The Goop Lab review – so Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t know what a vagina is | Documentary | The Guardian

I’m afraid of that, too. I assume the argument will be that she was attempting to strike a blow for modesty, not looking for sexual gratification. Of course, I don’t think that should be an excuse for grabbing at someone and yanking on their clothes–she could have easily torn the skirt or pulled it half off. I hope they manage to make some legal, sexual component of the crime stick, whatever form that takes.

What? Climbing under a table to take pics of someone’s genitals isn’t sexual in nature?

I’ll admit that I’m of the Gen-X but how likely is it that this woman had any pubic hair whatsoever?

Yeah, there is that, too. There’s a lot of unlikely and/or physically impossible elements in her claim…

I dunno. The people who are so obsessed with modesty, it seems like a sexual thing for them. All mixed up with control and judgement, but sex is in there. Anyone who pays that much attention to someone else’s body is sus. Plus, it’s always the young and pretty who get harassed.

If a woman were topless and someone grabbed her breasts to cover them, I would hope their “modest” intent wouldn’t keep it from being a sexual assault. :frowning:

Absolutely agree. I just feel like the flimsy legal excuses offered up to try to get people out of more serious charges, especially in sex crimes, have an unfortunate tendency to actually work in court. See “Boys will be boys” v. Everyone, for example.
