Video shows Fort Worth cop pepper-spraying passing bikers from roadside

I nearly sprayed coffee all over the desk. Don’t do this again.

You sat at a desk and sprayed hot coffee at a convoy of bikers? You’re no better than that cop!

Yup, those bikers are definitely weaving all over the road.

Power corrupts.

Power with absolutely zero accountability creates colossally corrupt assholes.

I can only assume that, in absence of the video, any of the resulting crashes would have served as ample proof of the dangerous and depraved driving that this courageous hero was saving us from.

I’ve heard a couple of times now that police officers are quitting and academy enrollment is down in some areas because of the growing anti-police sentiment. This is exactly what needs to happen. Maybe the bosses will figure out that they are hiring the wrong people and training them incorrectly. Or maybe their bosses will feel some political heat and start making fundamental changes from the top down.

Well it would be the best resolution given the current climate - and prove that people can effect change without resorting to armed insurrection.

Because that’s where these things typically head - when a large portion of the population feels persecuted and nothing is done about it - either that or we move further down the rabbit hole and become an east Berlin.

His intent might have been to distract the cyclists and/or provoke them into doing something he could then claim was an excuse for arresting him.

Either way still not very bright.

I had a fleeting thought that maybe he was trying to get himself fired, but then I realized this kind of stupidity is more likely to be rewarded.

Bad movies often make the mistake of using a trope villain who is evil for evil’s sake. We usually see these kinds of characters as one dimensional, with unrealistic motivations, and a sign of a bad film. Cartoonishly evil villains just aren’t believable… unless you are talking about a cop. With cops, that cartoonish villainy is not only believable but kind of expected.

Or all police will become the kind of sociopaths that don’t care if peple hate them.

I have to say, I am REALLY impressed with the abilities of that camera. It must be pretty high resolution with a good frame rate to be able to zoom in like that and have it be clear. Usually the whole “enhance” concept is science fiction because video resolution is so low.

“pepper-spraying drivers is not a department-endorsed tactic”

It’s still in the testing phase.

4k is getting really common, and it’d let a zoom/stabilization like that remain pretty clear. The nice bright sun is likely helping from that end, too.
Yay for pixels!

Who, exactly?

And for attempting to abjectly harm citizens.

Any way we can get an ID on this cop? I’d love to give him a call…

Is nothing good enough for you people? Would you rather he shot them?

He’s apparently on leave pending an investigation. He had stopped the truck to confiscate the cell phones from passengers because they had been recording the motorcyclists doing stunts – apparently this is legal if he is afraid the videos might get deleted before he gets a search warrant.

Seems reasonable because apparently lot’s of ex-military types are hired as cops in the US.

So in some sense the US public gets a taste of it’s own medicine usually applied to brown foreigners in far of countries.

“SHOOT HIM! He has a gun!”
