My brother in law refuses to even wear sandals/flip flops he despises feet so much. Always felt like he was compensating for something to take it to such an extreme.

As far as i understand, the biological reason for this is regions of the brain responsible processing stimuli from the feet is next to the region responsible for sexual stimuli. For some people there may be some cross signaling that makes them more inclined for finding feet sexually attractive.
I’ve also heard that it’s possible to train one’s brain to make different zones in one’s body into an erogenous zone.
Personally i don’t want feet anywhere near me during sexy times, nor am i interested in checking out other people’s feet.

That’s interesting, I’ve never heard that before. But wouldn’t that explain why some people find their own feet to give them erotic signals rather than why they were attracted to other people’s feet? (This is a pure layman, Dunning-Kruger inspired question - I guess I have some very careful googling to do)
But even if there is a unique explanation for why feet are seemingly such a common fetish, there definitely seems to be - for some people at least - a connection between things that disgust them and things that turn them on. I always imagined it we because we were taught sex is “dirty” so dirty and disgusting things link to sex. As you say:

isn’t it curious that our biological design has reproduction and both waste product functions within the same region? The proximity cannot have been completely random from an evolution stand point.
Frankly it’s better than how other animals evolved to use the same exact orifices for both reproduction and all waste disposal.

yeah, I mean I might be inclined to believe that but I would also like to see them fix the wiring and switch it back and forth on some test subjects before following that inclination.
