I’m pretty sure there’s a paper on PLoS somewhere: “Effects of Multi-Decade Suffusion of Alcohol in Right Wing Demagogues” or something like that. You can probably look it up.
People who don’t think this stuff matters underestimate the power of mass media in shaping public narratives and ideology.
Possibly a preview of the s—show that’s about to come to VOA is this recently published interview with Asia Times:
That’s not what I’m saying, perhaps I was being unclear: I don’t like the tactical look. It has nothing to do with function or danger but when I pull out my knife I want to see wood, not gunmetal because I’d much rather imagine myself as a French vintner on his wine, cheese and sausage break than as a soldier ready to stab someone (or a soldier on his MRE break).
I think anyone who compares European (and especially French) and American folding knife design will know what I mean. By the way, does anyone still carry a classic Buck folding knife? Now that is a classic I can respect!
Thy shouldn’t quit, they should stick around to document and expose all the BS the dirtbags will do.
When I carry a knife, it’s a 100th Anniversary Buck 112 folder my dad gave me back in 2002. I love it. Nothing like wood and brass on a pocket knife. I’m sure your average cosplaytriot would say it’s way too heavy for EDC, but whatever.
@generic_name I understand leaving an organization when awful people are brought on by leadership, but yeah, maybe they could have done more if they stayed in their positions? I dunno, it all sucks. And nothing surprises me any more about this administration. Richard Spencer will probably be given a position any day now.
Thought that headline was from the Onion. Damn.
I guess one of the things that I really don’t understand is the lack of popularity anymore of Swiss Army Knives.
It’s got a great, useful blade, for any utility knife work you need. It’s got complications that are dependable and trustworthy, and you can customize it to your needs by choosing different knife models. (Mine has a main blade, a can opener, a bottle opener, a nail file, an awl punch, and both flat head and Phillips screwdrivers. For what I find myself doing all the time, it is roughly perfect. Been carrying it for over 20 years.)
It’s light weight, small, and is pretty non-threatening. It’s most definitely a tool, one that I feel lost without. I hate leaving my house without it because it comes in so handy.
I mean, tactical folders look cool, I guess… but the functionality is just so one-dimensional, and for most things you are going to cut it is either no better than or worse than a Swiss Army main knife blade. (Honestly, most of them look like a great way to hurt someone… namely, yourself.)
I guess I really view pocket knives as more being tools and not weapons, and the concept of a tactical folder is a lot like a tactical hammer or a tactical handsaw… (and without googling, I’m sure there are plenty of both.)
I do like Buck knives too. They are well made and great for using; they feel more like well made tools too.
One more federal institution compromised and no longer representing the American people.
Gorka? He’s the brutal and cunning one, right? Morka is the cunning and brutal one?
Um, sorry. Had to go vomit. Just when you think it CANNOT get worse, it does.
My one problem with the Leak is the metal grip. My hands are always sweaty and I don’t trust it in my hand. My wife has one and loves it though. My EDC is a Benchmade Triage. Super-thick sheepsfoot blade and the seat belt cutter is great for zip ties.
I think when Leatherman-style tools came out they eclipsed Swiss army knives because they were slightly more useful but also because they were tacticooler. Which of course is ironic considering the Swiss Army Knife is very much a military-dedigned tool while the Leatherman (originally) wasn’t.
The new guy hasn’t shown up for work yet. Interesting.
" “No one knows” where he is, which is stirring anxiety among staffers, the agency source said.
Trump’s harshly critical comments about one of the agency’s divisions, Voice of America, have heightened concerns that Pack will try to turn VOA into a propaganda machine.
“There has been no announcement” from Pack, the agency source said. “No emailed greetings to the staff. No one has had contact with him. No transition briefings, nor introductory meetings or any contact at all.”
“Two and a half weeks in and it just seems he’s trying to break everything he can without asking any questions,” the other source said.
What on earth is wrong with his eyes? Crusty and almost gone, it looks like.
That’s because they are the windows to his soul.

I say let him break the agency. I want to see them drive Radio Marti into the ground as a result LOL. Too bad there’s not enough of us shortwave radio listeners to buy out the Greenville transmitter I would so love to see something more like music variety and actual news on shortwave.
