Are you sure that’s not Caesar Romero?

The return of Classic Joker.

You know, I would be perfectly ok with WB dubbing in Mark Hamill, while Pheonix does the physical acting.

That would be like, 100% excellent acting, and 100% excellent Joker.

WB needs to seriously release some info that explains where the hell they are going with this.

Yes boss! On the double, boss!

Smartassery aside. This is why Marvel is destroying them at the box office. Marvel films have a holistic story and theme running throughout. These WB films seem to have no unified look, feel, or story arc. Kind of frustrating as a DC comics fan to watch this.

It might possibly just be that they’re bad movies.

I’m sick of the Joker, time to bring back the Bookworm.

I thought Leto’s version was abysmal (who is well-suited for different kinds of roles), and Ledger’s was fantastic, so I’d be happy if Phoenix could hit somewhere in between. Something like Cameron Monaghan’s portrayal in Gotham would be enough to make me believe.

I’d agree with this except for the animated films. The run of DC animated flicks are all pretty damn awesome overall. Which makes me believe they can write a good script, dialogue, screen play, etc. It just ends up being that when WB gets involved it all goes to shit.

All 3 of the DC animated films I’ve seen were pretty good, certainly better than Batman V. Superman, but had too much story crammed into their (roughly) 75 minutes. OK, but they mostly worked for me as trailers for the graphic novels.

Flashpoint Paradox, War, Throne of Atlantis, Dark were all fantastic.

Then you look at the unconnected films, and there are some real diamonds here: Public Enemies, WW, Doom, Year One, vs The Elite, Killing Joke, and especially New Frontier…which IMO is one of the best animated superhero flicks ever.

Well, I guess we’ll just have to differ. I saw both New Frontier and Flashpoint Paradox and they were enjoyable enough, but it still felt too rushed to me. They did inspire me to read the original comics which I think worked much better. C’est la vie.

“No Country for Old Jokers?”

Well - this is pointless. No one cares what the pre-Joker Joker looks like.

Oh I agree the comic runs and graphic novels for many of these are better. But I am willing to accept that in a film version, you simply have to cut some things and pick up the pace.

Point blank…the animated films are far and away better than the live action films. If the live action flicks were the same plots and scripts as the animated ones, they’d all be pretty good (albeit not perfect).

I’m not sure that’s quite it. Tonally the Marvel movies have ranged from “Indiana Jones-style period adventure piece” to “high-stakes heist movie” to “goofball buddy comedy.” The common denominator for all (good) Marvel films is that they’re not afraid to have fun and they all feel true to their comic book origins.

The problem with the DC movies is that they took away the wrong lesson from the Dark Knight trilogy and have been trying to shoehorn every single DC character into the “tortured loner in gritty realism setting” mold ever since.

That’s why I never quite understood the appeal of that Gotham show. “What if we made a superhero show without any superheroes?” sounds about as appealing as “what if we made a porno in which all the characters remain fully clothed and just go about their daily routines?”
