Watch a former SNL personality testify in favor of book banning

When I saw “former SNL personality” and “book ban” I knew we must be talking about Victoria Jackson.

So playing a scatter brain on SNL wasn’t really acting.

She cites the “Goals of the American Communist Party”, and she has stated many times that she thinks that the Democratic party is run by Communists, which is, of course, total bullshit. Then she reads the goals, and it sounds a LOT like exactly what Reich Wing nutjobs like herself are actually trying to do.

Here’s an actual quote from Victoria Jackson ten years ago. Her target may have changed (although she was probably just as concerned about “communists” then) but she’s pretty much doing a copy and paste with the same speech:

I’m trying to use my fading SNL fame to shine a light on a topic that nobody in the media will talk about. … I think this big Islamic center will be a breeding ground for terrorists. I mean, duh ! I mean, this is the Bible Belt, and Murfreesboro is the buckle on the Bible Belt, and it’s a college town, so my feeling is they came here to convert people to Islam.

The source perfectly describes her as “waging a one-woman war on humor”.

I went down a rabbit hole a couple years ago and checked out her weird path down. She’s partnered with some other formerly big comedians like Ray Stevens to make some truly terrible youtube videos.

This is the first I’d heard of it and now I’m getting all that sadness at once.

I really hope Weird Al stopped talking to her ages ago.

Jackson is briefly mentioned in the latest episode of Dana Carvey and David Spade’s podcast Fly on the Wall. Just a mention of how funny she could be, especially with certain hosts on SNL. They usually can’t stop talking about old castmates, but they seemed short and guarded about her. I could obviously be reading into things due to my own bias against her. Then again, she seems like an easy get for the podcast considering she’s not doing much, yet it doesn’t seem like she’s been approached…

I’d forgotten about her past outpouring of drivel, so I watched this video almost expecting it to be parody and waiting for her to break character. I mean, she used to lampoon people like that, or perhaps the meta joke was that she was being serious the whole time.

Edit: s/wasn't/was

Which is always an interesting claim when contrasted against actually examples of countries supposedly under Communist rule. (Setting aside questions of "Is this example country actually Communist, of course.) The usual examples aren’t exactly sex positive and would certainly point to American society as decadent and deviant for those same reasons.

I felt the same…until she started talking with that squeaky voice. Jan Hooks also in the same cast, sent me into smoldering hormones. Cute, hot, funny (unlike Jackson) and a voice which wasn’t a turnoff.

There is a good reason Hooks kept consistently working after SNL and Jackson never found anything of note.

Apparently, she IS a bimbo.

Same as Joe Rogan. It turns out his character on “NewsRadio” was just…himself.

She was my first choice too.

Unless asked, Jon rarely says anything about his conservative political views. He seems more focused on being a professional comedian.

My personal feelings are that if there was a more than a superficial link between fear and conservatism, then I would have become the return of Pinochet years ago instead of becoming more anarcho-communist over that time.

I think the conservatism (or as @anon61221983 points out, the racism and islamophobia) was always there, it just took 9/11 to shake it loose to the front of his mind.

Right? The events of 9/11 allowed people to act on their racism and islamophobia, despite Bush making nice noises about how this isn’t a “war on Islam or Muslims.” And it also allowed more active racists greater access to the GOP, as they could play on the more latent racism against other groups.

The current propaganda is that the Ukrainian invasion is the fault of decadent LGBTQ+ people, but it was interesting watching how that propaganda started with us being on the Ukrainian side and has now changed to us being on the Russian side now that Putin isn’t doing as well as they predicted. It’s almost like there is no consistent argument other than “Queer people bad” with the reactionaries (which includes the tankies).
