“It’s not a train-bug, it’s a train-feature! Which may or may not crush you like a train-bug.”
I watched until the train started going by and the folks taking vid caught other tourists taking vid. I mean, I felt my upper lip curl when I saw the other tourists taking selfies, and wish I’d stopped there.
It’s just barrelling through that narrow street. Even the predecessor to the old NYC high line freight railroad took precautions in the 19th century:
In 1847, the City of New York authorized the construction of railroad tracks along Tenth and Eleventh Avenues on Manhattan’s West Side. The street-level tracks were used by the New York Central Railroad’s freight trains, which shipped commodities such as coal, dairy products and beef For safety the railroad hired “West Side cowboys”, men who rode horses and waved flags in front of the trains. However, so many accidents occurred between freight trains and other traffic that the nickname “Death Avenue” was given to Tenth and Eleventh Avenues. In 1910, one organization estimated that there had been 548 deaths and 1,574 injuries over the years along Eleventh Avenue.
I’m sure it’s just a metaphor for something…
Ah - the old flattened coins on the rails. Takes me back to my childhood.
Would love to be sitting were they were for a drink - but gotta agree - drinks near that isn’t the safest thing.
I wonder what the math is of the trains’ carbon footprint verses the number of airplane-using careless tourists removed from the pool?
Just don’t calculate the distillery carbon footprint!
I love when they nonchalantly put all the tables and chairs back outside the pub and go right back to their drinks.
My favorite close encounter with a train. Conductor probably saved the guy’s life given the follow-up structural extremities.
Location, location location:
- Close to shopping and entertainment!
- Transportation is mere steps away, especially if you’re unlucky or drunk or both!
- Non-existent zoning controls- if you can dream it, you can do it!
The term you’re looking for is minimum vehicle clearence envelope.
“And no one talks about that horrible night that there was an unscheduled express on the night that the rope bondage fetishists’ convention was in town…”
wow that was stupid on both their parts
ION, I bet a bucket of Pho that some MFer has jumped on that train and ridden it like some asian Teen Wolf
So, this is Vietnam’s answer to West Virginia?
Why? Why did they have to have that cotillion ball the same night as the rope bondage fetishists’ convention?!?? It was the perfect storm, I tell ya.
I think you want “loading gauge”.
Potayto, potahto…
“Leave it to the Vietnamese to turn a curse into a blessing and a profit.”
No, you fucking idiot. That’s CAPITALISM, taking a simple curse and turning it into nothing more than a profitable curse.
