Fun fact: During the Soviet era, the eastern bloc produced a few movie musicals. (The documentary East Side Story is a great watch if you ever get the chance.) One was an East German musical called “My Wife Wants To Sing” about a woman who, despite the disapproval of her husband, becomes a popular and glamourous singer and entertainer. When her husband tries to stop her, she points out that the state guarantees her the right to work if she wants to and there’s nothing he can do about it.
Given all the censorship these movies were subjected to, My Wife Wants To Sing could never have seen the light of day if the Communist regime hadn’t approved of its message and given it the official stamp of acceptance.
I know it’s hard to believe that a Republican politician from the south is either ignorant or lying, but I’m afraid it’s the truth.

I am tired of having to repeat myself, only to have someone else push the falsehood later in the same topic. It happens over and over again, and it would be easy to solve if people would actually read and pay attention to what I type.
Shouting is as much as I can do here, although if it was IRL I would be tempted to hit people round the head with a copy of The Conquest Of Bread (I still wouldn’t do it, but it would be very tempting).
It has been both parties in post-McCarthyist America. It was and still is important for them to close off the possibility of alternatives to what they propose, and what better way than to falsely claim that all socialism is Marxism-Leninism.
Ironically, this is also what Stalin, Mao and Kim Il-sung did, so that they could close off the possibility of alternatives to Marxism-Leninism.
In China, socialism and communism are whatever the Chinese Communist Party says they are. Whatever the Communist Party says and does is communism by definition, because the Communist Party is doing it. That “socialist values” sign is there to remind you that whatever is going on now is socialism, so STFU already if you don’t like it.
You can get into very serious trouble if you study and interpret Marxism in ways the Party doesn’t approve of.
So much of this (all of it, really) reminds me of the bit from “Life of Brian” where all the various sects with slightly different names argue about the arcane differences between their beliefs.
Meanwhile the assaults on our freedoms (done in the name of “FREEDOM”) continues.
