It sucks that translation is never literal. I often watch news and other stuff in another language and when translated, Trump sounds foggy but not foolish like he does in English. The translator’s job is to translate meaning, so when he says his every-sentence-stupid in English, they change it around to make it sound normal, otherwise people would question the translator for doing a poor job.
Live translating Trump has to be some sort of prison sentencing.
Here is a similar Canadian Heritage Moment, where the masses gave a collective thumb down to one hopeful who fumbled.
Fast forward to #fail meme culture of today? Ooof.
guys guys guys…
They were interpreters, not translators. (See the tweet Mark embedded in this post)
For people like me, who does this for a living, the difference between the two is huge.
We didn’t even try it. Paid attention to live comments for awhile, but then, hell, what’s the point?
Please no. That would have to involve the dancers dousing themselves with gasoline and setting themselves on fire. It would be too cruel.
Nah, they went straight to shochu for this shitshow, sake is only for enjoyment- when you gotta get hammered quick in Japan traditionally, you go shochu.
That’s literally every hardcore punk in the 80s then…
Right? How fucking depressing is that? I guess some people enjoyed it as some sort of spectacle, maybe people who enjoy pro-wrestling as a spectacle (which I did when I was younger and still have some appreciation for it, as entertainment). But given how much is on the line this year, it just infuriates me how our political class has failed us.
The asshole even said “stop stuttering Joe…”
When you’re right, you’re right. Definitely a shochu situation.
man, I just watched that again and again for several minutes.
I feel so calm and relaxed now.
thank you and good night
I didn’t know before today that Biden has had a stuttering problem in the past. So if Trump was trying to trigger that in Biden, his behavior at least makes a little more sense. And makes it worse at the same time. Most people in this country are decent people who don’t want to bully others or be bullied themselves. This is the most hopeful I’ve ever been that we could collectively begin to close the book on America’s reputation as a bully nation.
(Not that even a Biden landslide would complete that work, but it would be a start.)
You can’t translate what has no meaning. You might as well try to translate the Ging Gang Goolie song
Screw the shochu. Wash down some Okonomiyaki with multiple shots of Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky, get fucked up and cry, and call it a night. You’ll thank yourself the next morning for ending the night on an emotional good note.
