Oh so much this. Please flesh this out, because this is the seed of a real sedition charge of Trump insiders. This could be the key to bringing down the assholes, or at least the ones high enough to make a difference. Trumpism is so embedded in our body politic at this point that the only way to get it out is to make it utterly unacceptable to hold those beliefs. You know, to “Make America Great Again.”
It’s a thread.
For this upcoming semester, I actually added a section on white supremacy in the post-civil rights era. We need to make that connection to what happened this week more strongly. As we historians like to say, everything has a history…
Can’t say I blame him for doing so. But that kind of education matters.
Read the thread, still way too many unanswered questions. Should be getting much more attention than it appears to be getting at this point.
Do they really, now?!?
Even though an officer was killed?
I’ll say that’s pretty inconvenient.
They honestly thought that sociopath wouldn’t throw them under the bus to save his own ass
You need none of them.
Even if the FBI have collected all the necessary data to show that there was a real threat, they were just ignored, and it was exactly the same way as all the pleads from the DC mayor and the congress leaders were ignored after the capitol was breached.
Despite all the check and balances to limit each branch of government to dominate the other two, there are some very serious blind-spots that let this insurgency, and would let some other potential self-coups, to happen, because it was not considered that the president themself would disable some key functions to prevent a coup.
In the present case, all that was needed was to allow the legislative to authorize the deployment of the national guard, not to fight back the domestic terrorist after they stroke, but to have a non-compromised force to protect the congress in a key event before it starts.
There would not be any blood spelt, because the protestor wouldn’t even see the opportunity to attack.
ETA: fix some typos
George Conway now believes that there are enough senate votes to convict
"Sen. Ted Cruz, who has been criticized for his attempt to overturn the 2020 election, wrote on Twitter: “Devastating. Heidi and I are lifting up in prayer the family of the U.S. Capitol Police officer who tragically lost his life keeping us safe. He was a true hero. Yesterday’s terrorist attack was a horrific assault on our democracy. Every terrorist needs to be fully prosecuted.”
A change in tone, yes? Rats continue to desert, to no one’s surprise.
I hope they’d already been added to the “no fly” list.
The revolution will be selfied.
WHAT??
Once again:
WHAT??
No one told those Capital Police that the 2pm tour was cancelled due to the Joint Session?
Yes, you do Ted.
These are fire doors. They’re designed to only open from the inside. You can hear the alarm going off as they storm in while the Capitol Police stand by and say to the camera “disagree with it, but respect it”.
They let them in.
