All this dark tower discussion is making me want to revisit the series. I remember doing a 5th grade book report on the gunslinger (illustrated plume version) back in 1992 or something.
Have to finish the stand (again) first.

You know they’ve made another film adaptation of it, right?
Yeah I’m pretty excited about watching it (forget which streaming service it’s on).
Yeah, that thing out of Arizona the other day – “who’s ready to die!?” – makes me think of Judas at the end of Last Temptation:
For him?!
Specifically, the way Harvey Keitel delivers the two words. (Ah, here 'tis)
Just chuck the whole democratic experiment down the shitter – “for him?!”
I really crave seeing that cop pepper spray them right in their stupid goddamned faces, especially the maskless ones.
Even better than retaliating by referring to them as the “Republic Party,” I propose pronouncing GOP as if it was a word rather than the letters. Let us start referring to them as “the gop” (Rhymes with mop)
Don’t wait! I’ve got buckets full of electors, ready to cast votes for the low low LOW price of $9,999.99 each! Call now!*
*please have your party affiliation ready when you call
“The Pub Party” is more succinct and vivid. Or how about GÖP pronounced “goop”? Or for accuracy, the New American Nazi Association" or NANA. Sing ♫ NANA NANA NANA NANA - BATMAN! ♫
I just finished watching this boingboing story about Chicago suppressing body-cam footage of CPD mistakenly breaking into a woman’s house. The first thing that struck me about the video of these clowns trying to bullshit their way into the statehouse was “geez, the guard is being so polite to these pinheads. Where’s the CPD when you need them?” Followed, of course by ‘Oh yeah, the pinheads are white, the woman in Chicago isn’t’.
Its wildly illegal. But the guards at the building seemed pre-occupied.
“Charities”, my left cheek. The Amistad Project is part of the Thomas More Society, a right wing Christian nationalist law firm that only takes up cases to achieve their political wet dreams of abusing the 1st Amendment to impose their religious bigotry on the rest of us. All their work is political. They call it a charity because they do pro bono work for that purpose. They are heavily underwritten by some big money. Revenue over $6 million/yr.
It’s only a felony if they’re BLACK. (It’s a misdemeanor if they’re Latinx.)
… (Serious answer, though: it’s not just illegal, if they’d succeeded it would also have been unconstitutional. My Con Law prof said there weren’t very many ways for a private individual to violate the Constitution outside of violating the 13th Amendment, but these folks were sure as fuck trying.)
I mean I’m probably going to say something contraversial, but a bunch of people larping as if they’re doing an official electoral college vote isn’t probably illegal. There are thousands of such votes made by non-binding entities every year. Cascadia, the region up in the Pacific Northwest where I live is a “nation” that makes votes like this all the time, and talks about doing certain things and files that information with states / countries… and they just nod and go “that’s nice.”
It’s not illegal to pretend to be electors when you’re not. It’s illegal to submit those votes.
They need coaching by a Sovereign Citizen Master*. Obviously they weren’t saying the magic words just right!
* Always two, there are: a swindler, and a sucker.
Obligs:
maybe it isn’t illegal to pretend to be electors, maybe it is. that’s not particularly important. what is important is that from the reagan era through today we have had the spectacle of one political party for which expertise and even reality itself are not just unimportant but are, in fact irrelevant. these people have created an ouroboros of bullshit and they are consuming their own bullshit all while excreting ever more bullshit until we are all drowning in it.
the republican party as presently constituted is a danger to public health and should be closed down.
Senior Trump campaign legal adviser Jenna Ellis serves as special counsel to the Thomas More Society, which has filed lawsuits through the newly formed Amistad Project alleging problems with the vote in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
The Thomas More Society confirmed her relationship to the group but said she is playing no role in its election-related activities.
However, her affiliation with the organization — as well as other links between Trump’s team and the conservative group — suggest a coordinated effort to flood the nation’s courts with repetitive litigation that allows the president to claim the election results remain contested.
there are some things i expect to see over the next three weeks. i expect to see more violent protests and demonstrations by far-right/white supremacist groups seeking to overturn the results of the election. there might not be many deaths because police will have a hard time parsing the prospect of shooting down a bunch of right-wing white guys but there will likely be at least some deaths. on january 6 some senator like brooks from alabama will move to protest accepting the electors which will be seconded by either rand paul or tommy tuberville and then every republican in the senate will have to go on record as to whether they accept reality or trumpism, which is nothing more or less than republicanism. which means that it will likely be only romney and possibly murkowski or collins who will vote to accept reality.
the worst thing about the whole situation i that what the democratic party will have to do to salvage democracy in america is much more radical than what the republicans would have to do to destroy it. the types of jim crow legal structures and vote suppression tactics needed are not historically unusual and are well within the living memory of many americans while the democrats would have to not only get control of both houses of the legislature and the presidency but would also have to take effective control of the federal courts which will require extreme hardball tactics the likes of which have not been deployed since the 1870s. i’m in favor of it but there will be a large number who will want to “both-sides” the shit out of the situation even as proud boys carry them from their anchor’s chair as they shout “but i didn’t take sides!” to the firing squad.
