Giving cards for shoulder bumps? Hope you like watching matches that devolve into 7 on 8.
Is this news? I see this in every single game of futbol football soccer kickball I’ve ever managed to catch 5 minutes of.
Much like American football, they’re eventually going to have to crack down on that dumb stuff sooner or later.
This is one reason why hockey is better:
“Rule 64.1 in the Official 2019-2020 NHL Rulebook state that “any player who blatantly dives or embellishes a fall or a reaction, or who feigns an injury shall be penalized with a minor penalty under this rule.” While open to an official’s personal interpretation, diving or embellishing is a minor penalty.
The NHL isn’t the only sports league to have such a rule. The NBA has an “anti-flopping” rule, the NFL has levied fines for players feigning injury to save a team time-out.”
So - start handing out yellow and red cards for this and see what happens.
Cautions for unsporting behaviour
There are different circumstances when a player must be cautioned for unsporting behaviour including if a player:
• attempts to deceive the referee e.g. by feigning injury or pretending to have been fouled (simulation)
Source:
A caution is a yellow card.
Ok -but how many times are those given out for this? I’m sure there are examples…
From mid-season, 2014
The rules have changed since then to make it harder for the diving player to get away with it.
How many FIFA approved games of association football do you think happen every weekend? I’ll make it easy for you and we’ll keep it to national top tier league games like the English Premier League and MLS, so you don’t have to worry about games in the Essex Senior League or the Highland League.
Now compare that to new videos of simulation where the player doesn’t get punished.
Also:
You seem like the bigger soccer fan so will happily defer to you on this
Here’s one for James Neal; he has been penalized for this several times… I will note if the same thing happened to me at the food court at the mall, I would have made a similar display at least. You do see the call fairly often
Italy v Chile from '62 World Cup is worse/better I reckon:
Also, love David Coleman’s intro
The game you are about to see is the most stupid, appalling, disgusting and disgraceful exhibition of football possibly in the history of the game.
While I have the utmost respect for the athleticism and skill of soccer players, this is reason #2 why it’s very hard for to get into the game (other than watching my kids).
Reason #1 being PKs to settle ties.
Well obvz!
Back ‘atcha.
And here we are at the fifth replay of Oxford City and Alvechurch in the FA cup 4th qualifying round.
Did you think that the penalty shootout was just made up for the entertainment of the rulemakers?
I’m assuming that he’s pretending his nose was broken by the way he’s clutching his face, and I’ve had my nose broken (walked into a glass door at work. Yes, really did). I’m a teeny tiny lady librarian, and I did not collapse on the floor rolling about like a toddler; I started bellowing like an enraged bull elephant.
There was a great example of the opposite a few weeks ago in MLS. An attacking player had completely beat the defense and had a one-on-one with the keeper, but the defender behind him grabbed his jersey and pulled him back right before he took the shot. It changed the shot such that the keeper was able to cover it. No call from the ref, which makes no sense. It should have been a pk. Consensus says if the player had fallen down instead of fighting through it to take the shot, the pk would have been awarded.
ROFL, ok. I love the idea that the only solution to multiple tie-breakers is a skills competition. Innovative.
So what is your solution?
I’m not the soccer expert you seem to be. I’m sure you can think of something. But I do know that if they settled a World Series game w/ a HR competition after 12 innings or an NBA Final w/ a dunk contest after a couple OTs or the Superbowl with a Punt/Pass/Kick competition after an unsuccessful overtime, they’d be laughingstocks.
