Actually, there is an Observation plane landing routine for flying over jungles. The RAF were flying Auster IV light planes in Malaysia, and developed a crash-landing drill for essentially cutting power just above the tree tops with the nose up a little, at the lowest speed possible and just dropping onto a suitable tree top. It was done a few times. That was the easy part, though, then you had to get down and hike out to a rescue hopefully. This guy almost made that 'landing".
I assume between parachutes and survival equipment you probably have enough rope to let yourself down, but that’s a hell of a way to do it!
Pollarding shouldn’t do it any harm, so long as the supporting roots weren’t too badly cracked by the impact.
