Yes, but that guy likely COULD be worth 3 million after he makes about 3 million, so he keeps voting Republican. To protect his imaginary riches.

Yep. Though it’s paraphrased from John Steinbeck.
But Mark Twain was great too. I found this dilly, when checking the quote.
“The Indian may seem poor to we rich Westerners but in matters of the spirit it is we who are the paupers and they who are millionaires.”
Yes, it has overtones of a paternalistic noble savage view on Native Americans, but after looking at European/American history of the recent centuries, I can’t dispute that materialism is one hell of a drug.
Read about a guy who was on his 3rd Covid go around. Dr’s said each bout of the disease weakens the system (obviously doesn’t provide natural immunity). He died.

My virtual granddad always used to say that one of his goals in life was “to get rich enough to want to vote Republican.”
