Love the Ramones. Apparently yesterday was International Ramones Day - who knew?

Also - Regis has the weakest, dampest and most clammy handshake in the world. It’s like holding a raw oyster. True.

“We never left”-- except the drummers. Weirdly, in 1988 Marky would have just returned to the band after Richie’s stint.

Damn. Didn’t catch this when it first aired. Also, the Ramones on “Live w/ Regis and Kathie Lee”? Hmmm. Seems kinda like the day the music died right there.

Old TV can be really surprising at times. PIL wrecking havoc on American Bandstand (Johnny Rotten quickly gave up any pretense that his mike was live, started banging it on a podium and just abandoned it completely and started literally throwing kids onto the floor to dance). Dick Cavette interviewing Gloria Swanson and Janis Joplin at the same time (Janis and Gloria seemed to get along quite well)…How about Bob Costas interviewing Teller. NOT Penn, just Teller.

If you need your retro fix:

Scourge of America.

Oh wow, I remember those shows at The Ritz because The Dickies opened for them. To us New York kids, The Dickies were like the west coast Ramones.

That someone like Geraldo, so unctuous and insipid, could become rich and famous is surely a sign of the end times. There’s a scourge alright.

They always wanted to be mainstream rock stars tho, regardless of them literally marketing themselves as outsiders. Joey took way more inspiration from Peter Noone from Herman’s Hermits than he did from Iggy Pop or whoever.

Absolutely no one who was around at the time will ever forget nor forgive that absolute dud of a “news” show about Al Capone’s vault.

I remember that! Should have been a career-ender. He built his career on tabloid sensationalism and exploitation. He just oozes. And then on to Fox News to become a Trump cheerleader. Just imagine the hypocrisy that would take from someone with Puerto Rican descent. America is so full of narcissistic assholes it’s staggering.
