My parents actually got to see a battle between one and a tarantula. The tarantula managed to keep his front to the hawk at all times until it finally have up and flew away.
I have video of the air just seething with them from about 5 years back (they’re intimidating, but quite unaggressive really). I doubt I’ll see that again, though, with the worldwide collapse in arthropod numbers.

Apparently they are different animals; although both are marsupials, opossums are native to North and South America, while possums are native to Australia and surrounding areas. They are as unrelated as cats are to dogs.
