There’s a different sort of uncanny valley here, where the people turn into sacks of flour just as soon as they register a collision. It’s the kind of unthinking behaviour I found so effectively unsettling in World War Z.
Looked at that way, it’s sort of a caricature of how people on the inside think of people on the outside. It’s how Bush Jr was able to crow, “mission accomplished” for a war that has no logical endpoint. He saw his opponents in the same sort of cartoony fog. I’ve worked for such psychopaths, who think of the employees as extensions of their own ego.
Unsettling, ridiculous, yet somehow not funny. Put me in a blender like that, I probably wouldn’t do that much better.
