It’s the pause. Comedy is so deeply about timing and delivery and that little hesitation while your brain processes what’s about to happen elevates the joke tremendously.

It really is. The self-aggrandizing nature of the song helps, as a bit of ironic juxtaposition, but I suspect you could put any number of other songs with a similar pause and have it work just as well (or better).
