What porn stars want you to know

[from linked article] 4: Slapping Someone’s Genitals

I immediately thought of a particular scene—a moment within a scene, really—from Shortbus when I saw that one. I found a YouTube link to the exact clip (it’s mainly a dialogue scene) but I feel it won’t make much sense out of context.

If you’ve seen the film, you already know which moment I’m talking about. If you haven’t seen it, I envy you because you get to watch Shortbus for the first time.

Wow, so great picture and I agree with the statement. Please relate this to my post and the actual boing boing story with some actual substance? You assuming that because im white and because of other white people, there is no diversity in the porn industry? Have you looked around and online porn?

You are missing the point.

When someone says “white supremacist patriarchy” they are usually not saying it because they want any give and take of dialogue to continue…

The appropriate response is “Oh, I deeply apologize, and will strive to mend my ways in future”.

I see, ya… I deeply apologize.

Yeah, tough row you got to hoe there, my bro.

And yet, to me it looked like dialogue happened. It may not be a dialogue that you want to happen, it may not have gone the way you wanted, but look up. There it is.

Sssh, you’re spoiling all the righteous indignation and automatic rejection of an uncomfortable aspect of life…

The quote itself IS substance.

History lives in us, it shapes us, AND our perceptions of others.

You asked how the lack of diversity in porn is driven by something larger. My answer is that it’s driven by an extant legacy of overt white supremacy, which affects the tastes of mainstream porn’s consumers.

The impression of diversity is belied by the fact that the majority of porn caters to the presumed desires of a white male viewer. Because white is “default” mainstream porn makes weird, retrograde and highly racist categorizations of performers based on skin colour, and titles videos with the kind of misogynistic language you’d expect on a 4chan thread.

What sort of social system do you suppose would produce porn primarily in service of chauvinistic fantasies and fetishize non-whites?

Right…so my taste and everyone else’s has been tainted by overt white supremacy and this is why the porn industry does not have diversity??? There is plenty of messed up porn out there, its prolific and does not conform to white supremacist tastes, as I pointed out… multi racial content driven by users searching and views and uploads.

So I ask you - how has it affected mainstream porn? Is it all white supremacy content? What do you actually mean by overt white supremacy in relation to porn. Is it a penchant for just white girls you think that has dominated the porn industry?

Did you watch the video in the original post? It’s all right there, in what those women are saying.

Connect the dots, my dude. It’s not that hard, and I shouldn’t have to do that for you.

Charming.

You get out whatever you put in.

Just like most other mediums and forms of entertainment in America, mainstream porn is made and directed with the straight White cis-gendered male gaze in mind… no matter what the “objects” of their individual desires may look like.

I’m not here to charm you.

I do wish tho that you’d unplug your ears.

I thought it was accurate and to the point, personally.

It is not the responsibility of marginalised people to educate their oppressors. Nevertheless, @milliefink had the grace to point you towards enlightenment. If you choose to take offence to that, it’s on you.

Telling me to connect the dots, and that its not that hard, and that you shouldn’t have to do that for me… is not a respectful or considerate way to add value to a debate. Neither is posting nasty racist pictures either. You want to create hate and stir up racial tension by posting provocative images, then go ahead, that’s not my style.

I am simply saying, I think that online porn is being driven by users and their preferences/tastes. If people think that its driven by white supremacist views, I disagree.

As in so many other media/entertainment fields the users’ preferences/tastes are being molded by what is available and what is more heavily promoted.

Explain, please. What content was “racist?”

I hear you, and having thought about that I then ask the Q: are people’s sexual preferences molded by others OR are sexual preferences something that comes from within. ? It’s a good q.
