My question is kind of the reverse…There is some security in hiding things. But the lock doesn’t really add any security in this case. Anybody who finds this after looking through your books can simply steal the whole thing and open in noisy leisure later.
Yeah, this is the height of dumb. Since it’s purely “security thru obscurity,” go buy a used book at a yard sale for 25 cents and carve out the innards. Done, and saved enough money for a sub and a beer.
Actually having the lock does give it one good feature - it makes it significantly harder to inspect its contents without you knowing. If you have something secret in there (like a password) that you’d like to know if it was was compromised, having to break the lock to view it lets you know.
