Whatcha Watchin' (Season 2)

Snowpiercer.

The movie, not the series.

Woah.

Definitely gonna watch Parasite now.

Really? I haven’t seen parasite but I find his movies really uneven, frequently dull, and pointlessly cruel.

Snowpiercer was to me really silly. Okja was risible, the host a dull monster movie. I really liked mother. Mental tonal shifts but a lot of Asian cinema has that. Its kind of like post war European movies: grim realism, a clown scene, a musical number, everyone dies.

If I was watching it as a hard SF movie, it would be completely ridiculous. If I was watching it as action entertainment, it would suck.

But as a head-twisting political parable, it worked for me. It isn’t supposed to be taken literally; it’s metaphor all the way through.

YMMV, of course.

If you like asian cartoons… I watched and it is very funny.

I’ve just started watching Altered Carbon.

Hi-tech cyberpunk detective noir with Gibsonesque social undertones. Heavy on the sex and violence, but it’s used for plot reasons rather than titillation. Serious drama, not light entertainment.

I’m only a couple of episodes in, but so far it’s very good.

???
I cried my fucking eyes out, but I guess I’m just a softie who isn’t ok with killing sentient beings for food.

Tried to watch Horse Girl last night with the wife, an actual horse girl, but our ancient WD video player thingie kept crapping out. We didn’t get far enough in for any weirdness, just scenes of cringe comedy awkward conversations. Does it get weirder? I was hoping for Perfect Blue level head-fuckery from the description.

We did see enough to whole-heartedly agree we would watch the hell out of Purgatory! Pussycat is a Gubler fan so we were like “omg it’s perfect! 5 seasons please!”

Yes, it does get weirder.

Maybe not that weird, but out there for sure. Explorations of mental health and individual perception.

Just watched the last season of She-Ra… I really enjoyed the show and thought they took a not great, spin-off intended to sell cartoons into a great little show…

Also, the universe is saved by lesbians!

Another life-after-death comedy

Dead Like Me and The Good Place have set a high bar

This doesn’t quite get there but it’s still pretty good

Black sails, game of thrones but pirates. They do pirate stuff. Yar Har fiddle da dee being a pirate is alright to be. Do what you want cause a pirate lives free, you are a pirate.

Yay!

Wife: The kids are finally in bed. Want to watch The Lion King?
Me: Uh… sure, I guess?
Wife: Oh wait I mean Tiger King.

IMDB says:

Bless. IMDB plot summaries FTW.

That is just so far off what the show is about…

I liked it and if the shows you mentioned are better I’ll have to keep an eye out for them

No thanks, I’ll go with Lion King. Glorifying animal cruelty is not something that I am cool with.

Not sure “glorifying” is the phrase I’d use based on what I’ve seen of the documentary so far, but YMMV.

It reminds me a bit of Blackfish in that one of the central takeaways is “we need more laws to prevent people from breeding, keeping or exhibiting these creatures.”
