If anyone watches Asteroid City this weekend, please let me know how it is.
I’m actually in favor of series getting longer term contracts like that… but this seemed so universally despised (and not because of the diversity of the show, for once), that it surprises me that HBO did not bury it, since they seem to love to do that now with animation, so they don’t have to pay people.
Yeah, WB seems extra eager to can things, and the voice talent on the show likely doesn’t come cheap. Someday we might discover that some aspect of the second season was already completed or this is the rare time they don’t pivot away from animation because The Animation Guild isn’t currently on strike (and unfortunately are easy to underpay and make suffer due to their horrible contracts that never get improved).
I think the Ryan George “Pitch Meeting” for this show explained it at the very end.
“Have you heard of something called ‘hate-watching?’”
High hopes…
I’ve tried to watch the Chinese shows, but the live action is way too drawn out - 30 something episodes to cover just the first book? - and the anime is crappy CGI.
Soon…
I will never forget when Inspector Morse died. I came in to work the next day all “God damn Inspector Morse fucking died y’all!!!” and nobody knew what I was on about.
Did you watch Endeavour last night? I’m so sad/excited about this season. What a great run.
First episode of Secret Invasion was entertaining enough. The way it’s setup is a little disappointing, though. The invasion plot is less interesting than everything about why Fury left Earth for so long – and why people in various governments are so concerned about his return. (Although these two things could clearly be related.)
One thing I didn’t like, though, was the fact that I pay attention to the credits spoiled the death of Maria Hill. Considering how closely Hill works with Fury and how that was unlikely to change here, not putting Cobie Smulders in the credits was a huge red, bloodstained flag.
I “watched” Secret Invasion last night, or more accurately, browsed the bbs while the show played in the background. I didn’t pay attention enough to form an opinion on the show, but I tried to pay attention at first only to quickly get bored. I’m not sure what it is, but there have only been two Marvel Studio properties released since Endgame I’ve really enjoyed and one of those only really includes the first half of the season (Wandavision).
So Secret Invasion E1 sucked. I too noticed Cobie Smulders‘ name missing from the opening credits. Predictably cheap TV followed. I was more distracted by wondering where they shot the “Moscow” street scenes. Pleased not to see the peach logo in the closing credits, so I guess Ontario?
Marvel artists certainly weren’t happy about the AI-generated opening sequence, and I don’t blame them:
That’s pretty cheap and lazy.
Yeah I get it but that was too on the nose. And cheap.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Spock’s “thing”.
“I would like the ship to go. Now.”
October 6th release date
I can’t decide whether I should bother watching this one or not. Even the dialogue from the trailer I saw sounded poorly written. Especially this line:
This is a ticking time bomb. And it was you who lit the match.
Perhaps tonight was not the best time to watch Season 6, Episode 3 of “Black Mirror”: Beyond the Sea.
A younger, stupider me used to love this show. It really could work well as MST3K material.
