It’s not remotely like Poker Face. The initial resemblance is I think completely coincidental. I recommend you give it another chance
Fair enough! I might not have been in the mood
I did accidentally watch the first four episodes of this in a row, so it won’t be long before I need a new show.
I really liked that one!
Nimona drops today!
ETA: We watched it last night. Really good. I told my gf to avoid the trailer, as she hadn’t read it, and trailer was spoilery, afterwards, she said that was a good idea.
Different from the book (as I remember, haven’t read it since it came out). More Kaiju, less bleak ending, but thought ultimately true to the spirit of the book. It will piss off the right people, and give outsider kids a hero.
The last two episodes of Superman & Lois’ third season felt weird. They were good episodes, but they felt like they should have been the beginning of the fourth season. They brought in a new character and presented new status quos for existing characters. It was filmed at a time when they didn’t know they were getting a renewal, so I assume it was meant to present the strengths of the show to the network.
The introduction of Lex Luthor was fantastic. It immediately presented him as this powerful, manipulative force. Even in the face of adversity, he’s already set to be in control. It was amazing, and Michael Cudlitz knocks all of it out of the park. The problem? The season’s big bad in comparison seems like he wasn’t even playing in the minor leagues. He was only pretending at the same game. Luthor is the archenemy of Superman, sure, but it shouldn’t be at the expense of all others. It came at the cost of a character who could have been described as a Black Lex Luthor.
The final episode also presents an easy way to reduce the majority of the cast, which they knew was happening due to CW cost cutting. Unfortunately, only the Kent-Lane household and Luthor will be regular cast members next season, reducing all of the minority characters to guest appearances.
Once again…and for valid reasons.
The thing is…there are soooo many shows I haven’t seen in my lifetime (50+ years), I always have something to fall back on.
I gotta say, this really lives up to the hype.
thank you, chef.
mum and i are 3 eps in and really liking it! very fast pace can be a little hard to keep up with, but that’s life in the kitchen, chef!
Just watched Nimona and really enjoyed it. The last act seemed a bit rushed, though. Maybe for the best since the story was about learning acceptance and that last act could have disrupted that somewhat. Next we’ll be checking out the book.
Late to the party, as usual, but i loved this. A nice homage to 70s horror even if it’s diverging quite a bit from what Black Mirror is supposed to be about - seems like they are going that direction with the new Red Mirror label. I also completely failed to recognise the actor who plays Nathan Barley!
I loved how the demon ended up looking like the guy from Boney M! One of my favorites from this season! That and Joan is Awful might have been my favorites…
Thought it really stuck the landing as well, Demon 79 i mean. Loch Henry reminded me of some old school Black Mirror back when it was on Channel 4 so that was a favourite, if favourite is an appropriate word…
Loch Henry was good too! Much like Joan is Awful, I thought it really questioned the whole streaming infrastructure that dominates TV entertainment now a days… I did NOT see the twist coming with Loch Henry, though! JFC!
Yes, i was surprised they got Joan is Awful past the Netflix PTB as it was obviously a critique of the algorithmically generated crap that the platform is filled with and i can’t be sure a lot of it isn’t AI generated using ChatGPT scripts. I thought Loch Henry was questioning our morbid obsession with true crime docs, forgetting that there are real victims behind them. The actress playing the mother was amazing!
I think it’s because they’re gonna keep doing it, so they look more “aware” if they let criticism be platformed and can foreclose criticism - “see, we let them make fun of us, so it’s fine!”
She really was, wasn’t she?!?
I enjoyed the graphic novel, had no idea it was a film now, so thanks, will look out for that.
5 episodes in.
Totally worth it!
Watching one of the classic series, The Invisible Man with David McCallum, and an assassin’s weapon in episode 5 is a gun made up to look like a surveyor’s kit, but would be so transparent and obvious to someone one the street who’d seen surveyor’s kits almost every day in the big city. Not to mention the bottom part still just looks like a painted gun.
A Black Lady Sketch Show will not be back next season. Disappointing, but let’s be honest and admit that it was amazing to have a Black woman created, produced, and led sketch comedy show for even one season, let alone four.
