Can’t take my eyes off of this feed today.
Maybe it’s the three-quarter video game angle?

Secret Invasion continues to be a slog of a show. It’s not actively bad, however it’s not striving to be all that good either.
The worst thing about it is how it has poisoned the MCU mythology of Nick Fury. He’s been presented all this time as this awesome badass spy. Showing him infrequently was the best way to handle it. He’s had the majority of the screentime of the show, and it’s hard to even say he’s still cool. It forces the viewers to recognize that this is Nick Fury, not the “two steps ahead” guy that even the other characters are pointing out he’s failing to be. We’ve never seen that version of him. If that version of him only exists off-screen, it’s as good as that version not existing at all.
Surprising to learn that while Nickelodeon has had the rights to basically all of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with the exception of the broadcast rights to the original TV series. But it explains why it’s but in Pluto TV and Paramount+. They weren’t being stingy with content. They just didn’t have it.
I was reading the film reviews for both Barbie and Oppenheimer. The Barbie film critic had a traditional woman’s name while the Oppenheimer film critic had a traditional man’s name. After a bout of disappointment, I wondered if there is a clear preference for the movies based upon gender identify?
If you had to choose one film to watch first, would it be Barbie or Oppenheimer? I’m not interested in sexual preference, just self identification.
I’m not making the poll anonymous, which is why I have an option for people who don’t wish to identify.
I should add that I am still considering a double feature. In that case I would prefer to watch Oppenheimer first because I expect so much more from Barbie.
Yeah, I just started this series. Justina Machado is giving another fantastic performance, and I’ll probably finish it before the weekend is over.
Neither. I will watch both, both are eagerly anticipated. Both involve film makers I admire (I love GG from her mumblecore days and also from her Hollywood films, I love some of Nolan’s films inordinately, some I couldn’t be bothered to watch. I love Margot Robbie from things like I Tonya where she was GREAT. I love Cillian Murphy from being in a small room watching his first professional role. I actually saw his co-star in that play leading the main stage of the Abbey Theatre this week in Marina Carr’s new play. Fuck me but being in that room with those two doing Enda Walshe’s first big play was some experience).
I’m not an either/or kind of person. I’m a yes! and! kind of person. The order I will watch both, and the number of times, will be defined by the people I love and look after in my life.
So Barbie first, second or third, and possibly another time!
That’s what we’ve been calling it too! Although we watched in the opposite order.
I’ll wait until both movies are available on a streaming service. After these pandemic years, I lost the urge to go to the movies.
Now an anecdote: Yesterday I decided to cut back from work and crossed a shopping mall. I’m usually kind of detached and don’t pay much attention to my surroundings. But I noticed that there were many families with children, mostly girls, all wearing some pink clothing. Then I passed this gentleman, with white hair and a sober moustache, who was dressed all in shades of pink and purple. Pink pants, violet cardigan, pink hat, purple T-shirt, and an elegant violet scarf.
As I was leaving the mall I realized it must be because of the Barbie movie!
I thought it was all really cool. I guess it must have been something like the midnight sessions of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”, but in a kind of matinee/PG-13 fashion.
I also just started this show; four eps in, and I am hooked.
It has so many great actresses from OITNB, and seeing Justina Machado (whom I know from 6 Feet Under) again is fantastic.
I saw a lot of pink as well, even a man in fun drag, with a sequined pink blazer over the world’s shortest miniskirt, and of course pink stilettos. He was with a couple of women who were also in pink, but nowhere near as fabulous.

She was the Bonnie Franklin lead character in the remake of One Day at a Time, which was canceled far too soon (there was a 4th season in 2020, but for some reason it’s really hard to find). Excellent remake, and she’s a major reason why.
the remake of One Day at a Time
I know it was well received, but I never watched it.
It’s been 2 years since the first season of Invincible came out. Honestly, it feels like it’s been longer even though parts of that finale still sit with me in that “I can’t believe they did that” sort of way. Anyway, new trailer dropped and there’s an Atom Eve special on Prime right now.
My favorite part of the trailer is the reveal of the voice cast. Especially the reverential slow reveal for Peter Cullen. Voice actors who have been around and whose primary career has been VO work just don’t get enough respect. Glad that happened here.
My Dad tonight, trying to watch “The Revenant”:
“This is the most boring film I’ve ever seen”.
(Bear in mind he loves Western movies and also Cricket - the sport, not the Jiminy).
Me: “Turn it off, then, go watch something else, you have netflix”.
Dad: “But he’s murdered someone.”
Me: “Eh?”
Thinks: Thank fuck you haven’t tried watching Avatar.
Oh, also, watched “Nimona” last night.
Didn’t think it was that far off the original story.
Dashed good fun, don’tcha know…
