You need an achievement badge for finishing DD S2. I’ll try to muddle through it, but…
It wasn’t that bad; obviously not as good as S1, but still better than most of the dreck that’s being passed off as entertainment these days.
Thanks for confirming my decision to bag it after they discovered the big hole.
About the only thing new I really like now is Sweet/Vicious, started OA but it creeped me out. Might go back. When I have nothing good in queue I go to the next episode in my rewatch of Stargate SG-1. Jack just made General.
Tried a couple of episodes of White Rabbit Project. Mythbusters it ain’t. Needs a lot more actual building of stuff.
Series 6 of The Avengers. I didn’t appreciate this series on past watchings because Linda Thorsen was not Diana Rigg. Half a century on I’m finally past that prejudice, and to be honest the episodes are pretty good.
For a show that came out several years ago and missed the mark?
Brand new show, 2016.
I’ve been binge-watching The Bletchley Circle the past couple of days.
It centers around a group of female code-breakers solving mysteries, usually murder, which both serve as an antidote to and subvert the monotony and repression of re-entering patriarchal post-war society.
Mind you, this is definitely not dabbling, like something out of a mystery-of-the-week show. Of course, they’re head and shoulders above Scotland Yard, and prove it.
An enthusiastic thumbs up.
Yeah, that was a good show. I was really hoping for a third series.
Inside no 9 - the devil of christmas
Great stuff. Loved the setup of this, they’re always willing to experiment and mostly it works but not always.
Waiting on S2…
I keep thinking I’ll try again. I watched the first episode and tried the second but could make it though. Perhaps it is time for another try
It takes a while to find it’s footing; but the premise is intriguing enough to to invest the time watching.
Lately:
Last night I watched “The Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2016”, for Charles Dance, Richard Ayoade and David Mitchell.
Last week I beheld three of the BBC’s “A Ghost Story for Christmas” dramatization of M.R. James’ ghost stories: “Whistle and I’ll Come to You, My Lad”, “The Stalls of Barchester,” and “A Warning For the Curious.” These are on YouTube, and a quick scroll down the Related Videos vertical navigation will reward you with more M.R. James ghost stories featuring Christopher Lee.
Aww hell, that’s the christmas 2 hour special isn’t it? Gotta watch that, thanks for the reminder.
Excellent choices. About “Whistle and I’ll…”, was it the one featuring Michael Hordern or John Hurt?
Michael Hordern, directed by Jonathan Miller. I didn’t know about the John Hurt one!
I’ve seen the Hordern version, but not the Hurt. Here’s a good rundown of the BBC’s James adaptations:
Wrong medium thread, but have you read M.R. James’ stories? I have a book on loan from the library and wondered what short stories readers recommend.
Just watched the Doctor Who Xmas special on the big screen at the theater which was a fun bit of superhero references.
