OH wait - did you all cover the Doctor Who Christmas Special? I liked it. I rewatched the previous one to remember why Matt Lucas came from. Though I found it odd he didn’t reference the aliens - like - aha! You people again!
Have not seen it yet. Should grab it on DVD when it comes out (next month)… and we’re also apparently gettting a fully animated version of Power of the Daleks this month, which is a second Doctor story… The first, in fact!
I got to see it at the theater on a HUUUUGE screen. I also have a local copy now via alternate methods. I really liked it. A good start to the new season.
Is that the one where they have the script and some clips, but most of the video lost? Sounds fun.
Every watch the two movies that starred Peter Cushing as the Doctor?
I LOVE Peter Cushing. Especially his unique look. I here these films present a different Doctor than we are used to. If interested LMK and I can put them on my drop box. I think.
You nerd, watching TV at the theater
I liked them. Remakes of tv episodes but still well done and the better production values were nice.
at the theater with 200+ other nerds! it was awesome!
I think they have just the audio. I think the only clip they had from that was the regeneration.
And yes, I have seen them! They were interesting and certainly their own things which doesn’t really fit in with the canon of the show, but worth watching! Peter Cushing is amazing, of course![quote=“Mister44, post:609, topic:84100”]

For one, he’s human, not an alien!
Cool, we watched the standalone OVAs and we liked them but felt a little bit cheted because there’s a lot left unexplored. I’ll be on the lookout for it.
OMG Black Sails is back!
Not for much longer:
Right now, we are watching “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”, and “Travelers”. Both are very enjoyable.
Watched 2 episodes of Magicians on Netflix. Not bad. Reviews said it was derivative, but you can say every Western was derivative too, not to mention every post Rings fantasy book. At some point you judge it within the vernacular of it’s genre. Seems to be Potteresque with a tinge of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.
Got a kick out of them using the non-Rowling term “battle magic” that was used in HPMoR.
Did it get better after the 1st season? I watched most of that but it seemed to jump the shark.
Yes.
But I loved the first season and my tolerance for anything remotely pirate-related is even fucking lower than my tolerance for superhero stuff. So fair warning. I liked Crossbones and that got cancelled.
Do mean ‘high tolerance’, as in you’ll watch anything with pirates or superheroes, or low as in it better be awesome or you’ll hate it? I’m the latter for the superheroes.
Yep. I’ll put up with any old crap with parrots and eyepatches or capes and spandex. If they ever release a pirate superhero show, it will be the best thing ever. So whatever way round that makes sense.
Over in the prepper thread I’ve been yapping about how if the end of civilization came I’d be down at the marina swinging a genuine saber and commandeering a sailboat. Get you stiff?
Nah. I’d last about 0.5 seconds. EOTWAWKI skills… aren’t my strong suit.
But if you’re looking for a rum-disposal expert and shanty-dispenser…
There does always seem to be room for someone of that description, kinda like the guy in the WW2 flick nicknamed ‘Brooklyn’.
Always pick a good survival role. Comedy sidekicks always have a good chance of making it through the movie. Unless it’s a western, in which case be the guy asleep outside the cantina who only wakes up after it’s all over.
One of my favorite parts of Cabin in the Woods.
