I’m more than a bit disturbed by how good that video is.
Is it bad that I love the whole Gremlins 2 studies even though it’s a complete gag?
As far as i know there have been quite a few attempts to make sequels and reboots of gremlins for years, this being the latest. along with an animated series
Detroit’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Subcompacts in full flower,
Alas, impov’rished of power.
As leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.

At some point, this project gets to a meeting in which the savviest PR in the company is present, and she says “So we’re going to produce an entire prequel based on a throwaway joke from the old movie about white people’s fascination with oriental mysticism?”
I hope they have a plan!
Gremlins 2 already satirized Trump, so I think we can wait quite a while for another one.
I don’t particularly mind that they would want to do a prequel based elsewhere in the world but the Asian setting being based on a seriously questionable and racist trope from the first movie is just… yikes. I can’t imagine it’ll be any good but i guess we’ll see.
The showunner is Tze Chun, which seems encouraging.
Good luck putting the fur back on Baby Yoda.
It’s also questionable if 1920s Shanghai is really the best setting even if orientialism is what you are going for. J.G. Ballard (who grew up in Shanghai in the 1930s) once wrote how amused he was that Shanghai in contemporary Western pop culture (Terry and the Pirates, etc.) was depicted as an exotic place of oriental wisdom, while in fact it was a a very Westernized place due to the semi-colonial “concessions” where various countries were given the right to control various neighborhoods of the city.
Will the new show answer the question of when “after midnight” turns into “before midnight” again?
Perhaps it’s just as well we’re being spared a CGI Dick Miller.
Nick Lutsko, or as I call him, hysteric Johnny Cash.
That was my first thought, of two Gremlins left at the bottom of my hill to be submerged when the Russian River flooded again. A nearby shop (and early Net hub) was named The River Rose – and when the river rose, the shop went away, along with the Gremlins.
Other Gremlins served as sasquatch sandals. But I digress.
Sorry, but how exactly is Gremlins not just a simple horror movie, albeit with some stereotypical Asian themes common of movies of the time? And all of that takes place for a few minutes at the beginning and end of the movie? You guys are projecting things onto this film that make zero sense.
there was no racism in the past because racism was normal in the past
that’s just logic
