Where it all went wrong for the Fedora

And it lasercuts and laser-engraves at 10.6 µm fairly well. Dark patterns on light background go naturally. For light-on-dark, you need a paint. A masking tape on the surface of the leather, then laser-engraving, then spray-painting, then removing the mask does a good job.

I think there’s a parallel problem with assuming that because something has taken on a problematic meaning in some circles, that is therefore its meaning everywhere. From what I can tell, the fedora has taken on meanings like being dressy and professional but also relaxed, caring about your appearance and so on. People like Frank Sinatra were able to use these hats as an extension of their personality and also solidify its reputation as an item of clothing that was attractive to women. It’s one of those items of clothing that gives you more presence in a group, if you know how to wear it. Wearing it now could be for practical reasons, because you want to resist more casual modern styles, because you admire more traditional culture, to be part of a group, to pick up women, or for other reasons or a combination of the above.

It seems to me that the PUA groups like the idea that changing your uniform can give you instant power over women and give people the impression that you are respectable, but that’s an old con. It could equally just mean that you respect yourself and those you are with enough to pay attention to your appearance and dress up.

Might it also be naive to assume that articles of clothing could communicate anything without tremendous ambiguity? Personally, I consider the practice to be anti-social. It cannot work beyond people stereotyping each other and themselves, and is grossly inefficient. Sure, people insist upon doing it, but to everyone’s detriment.

Cuz no matter what, the majority of ā€œfedoraā€ wearing dudes this is what we see…

I mean, what, those boys are like… 15! Maybe. I just want to give them a time out and box their ears (not that I advocate for physical punishments). I mean, how did two 15 year olds come to wear such douche shirts…

Because if they did, they’d box their ears!!!
