Which of these charming gents is Virginia governor Ralph Northam?

Oh, come on…

Interesting use of language there. Is this kind of like Catholicism, except that instead of confessing in private before God and the priest, one confesses on social media before fifty million?

Not quite dead yet.

Well, hell, then. Let chaos reign. Is there really no one out there who does not have shitty stuff in their background? And why does it only matter to Democrats?

Suppose that the blackface story had surfaced on election eve. Would you have

A - voted for Northam
B - voted for Gillespie
C - writein/3rd party/stayed home

?

Even if they both resign the third in line isn’t a worse choice for governor. It’d be much better to just set an example for conduct instead of being a media circus. Just take the hit and take the time off to make amends properly and show some personal growth - even being entirely cynical and saying they are faking it is better for your party, your career, and the people you represent.

What advantage does being the center of media attention for a few months give? They’re both past the point of no return: there’s photographic proof of Northam, and Fairfax has already changed his story a few times.

To lean in to the Catholic metaphor, “contrition” isn’t just about confessing one’s sins (especially if one only confesses after being caught) but about experiencing genuine remorse and repentance. I think that standard can apply just as easily to the secular world as the spiritual one.

By the way, Big League Politics has already lined up their strike against the Lt Governor.

Every time a new social issue rises up, a-holes on the right, who don’t really care about the issue, weaponize it for political character assassination. Awkward, because even if we know that they’re doing it, it isn’t a defense of the act that they dug up.
