Literally, to a word, what went through my brain when I read the headline.

This presidency is the laziest, most ham-fisted YA novel I’ve read in quite a while.

The social media platforms usually like to paint themselves as common-carrier utilities, although when it’s proposed that they be regulated like utilities or be subject to anti-trust regulation they suddenly turn around and portray themselves as media outlets whose First Amendment rights would be violated by such legislation.

The reality is somewhere in between, and the founders of Facebook and Twitter are late-stage capitalists who are – consciously or not – adherents of the Californian Ideology. As a matter of course, they do exhibit bias toward those in the rightward sectors of the political compass, allowing them to express noxious and discredited views as long as they support Libertarian economic positions. Meanwhile, missteps by socialists and economic social justice advocates are punished swiftly and without recourse.

Put differently, if you’re a lefty who hyperbolically advocates violence against the wealthy in your posts, you get banned when conservatives complain; if you’re a conservative who argues that, say, all trans people are mentally ill you may get a temporary ban but will be re-instated when other conservatives complain. And if you’re a bigoted conservative politician or a well-masked Russian trolley supporting him you tend to get a pass.

Either way, the platforms are not interested in increasing their labour costs by hiring and properly training more moderators. They’d rather cut corners with supposedly neutral black-box algorithms that always turn out to be informed by the founders’ biases.

So since this is essentially a surveymonkey that will be used to harvest campaign data. Should we just write a bot and spam it with markov chain text?

The good news is, for all the historians, professional and armchair, who have wondered and speculated about conditions on the ground in mid-1930s Germany, an answer is now available.

The big shocker is, we all expected The Fuehrer to be an evil mastermind, when he’s just a psychologically damaged moron. And yes, you can report me on that.

Oh I’m not picky. As long as it’s obviously just a product of him being an ancient, fat, unhealthy slob with no ability to take care of himself. And not something his party can spin into some kind of bullshit martyr narrative. As if it’s possible to avoid that.

From this I assume the closed door meeting between Trump and the owner of Twitter went well.

No matter how this goes, I’m certain he will call it a yuge success.

Perhaps advanced syphilis. It was good enough for Capone.
